New to forum with 99 Standard. Just completed rear spline and pinion cup grease maintenance thanks to the Forum. Also replaced O-rings. Now after reassembly and a few hundred miles Grease is appearing on differential side of rear wheel in a spun on pattern.  Any ideas as to the cause?  I did remove plastic ring from Diff and reinstalled, is it possible this is not on correctly.  Bike makes no new noises

Thanks for any suggestions

I'm betting on o ring problem...did you replace the 3 o rings, possibily need to or maybe damaged one on reassembly

I did replace all three O-rings and coated them with Grease on reinstall as mentioned in forum.  It seemed I got it right at the time.  Thanks for suggestion.

I had the same problem on my Standard shortly after I bought it. I just assumed it was normal at the time. When we pulled the wheel off the next time, everything looked like new. I personally wouldn't worry about it and it's most likely extra grease like jrhorton said.
When in doubt, ride.

Yea mine did that to. It was still greased 15k later. No worries.

Like what everyone is saying.  Was not looking forward to pulling rear again.  Will grease stop at some point getting on rear wheel and will there still be grease/ paste on splines for good lubrication?

If you packed the spline housing full, it'll push out when the heat builds up. Most folks over due the grease but it doesn't hurt. You just have a mess for a while.
