IS radio power SOLVED

Today I installed the IS alternator radio filter. I had to pull the alternator. All went well. Mine didn't have the filter.

When back together I have no radio power in acc position. Also no radio on run position. If bike is running radio works. Checked all fuses. Wondering if I bumped some relay while pulling alternator. Any ideas on what to check.

Which one did you install - the silver cylindrical unit (a la 1500 'Wing) or the true I/S unit (black cube with wire leads)?

I installed the black IS cube. Not sure where I messed up. Radio works but only with bike running. Remembers station and clock. I removed big wire to alternator. Wonder if there was one more. Radio seems to get power only when running yet has memory.

Found the issue. The 55a main fusable link had blown. While removing the alternator I forgot at first to remove the battery cable. The alternator wire touched a gound and the fuse must have blown then. I just walked out and sure enough the fuse was blown. I put in the spare and I have another spare to carry at home.

I was looking at the wiring diagram and it lead me to the issue. The main fuse on the alternator side feeds two fuses. One for the radio and the headlight. So once started the alternator could feed those fuses. Good thing I found this as the battery wouldn't be charging with that fuseable link out.

I have a 2000 interstate. Am trying to use J and M Helmet speakers through the six pin plugs for music only. Works , but there is a constant hiss and I can hear road noise through the helmet speakers also I can tap on the radio and I hear that through the helmet speakers. Any solutions? I dont need the intercom only listen to music.

Sounds like the intercom volume is turned way up. Press top button closes to the clutch lever  VOX wil show on display and then  using volume button for radio turn volume down on vox to zero and see if that helps.

Thankyou Mr. Bubbles, that fixed my problem, I could not locate "VOX" , but I did manage to turn the intercom volume to 0. No more hiss or road noise in the head set. I have tried to do this in the past, using the manuel, no luck. Thanks again.

Static and white noise was driving me nutz on my trip East in July; then I realized it was wind and beard rubbing. Wrapped the microphone in duct tape and it was gone!
Sometimes it's the easiest thing once the real problem is found.
