I figured since my knees aren't hurting much, I would get another ride, AND I DID!

Here's a pic of a like new 2006 Vstrom 1000, low 9,000 miles.  I bought it and rode it this AM.
It rides great, a softer suspension with lots of travel, very easy on my old arse. Not a canyon carver but an 'adventure tourer' as Suzuki calls it.  Taking this bike off road isn't going to happen though, too heavy at 525 pounds.

Plenty of power from the 90 degree vtwin. 90 hp and flat torque band. Supposedly quarter mile in low 12's and I believe it. 40 miles today and just a few adjustments will be needed.  It felt real good to get on a bike again. especially this one.  It's kinda funny, I'm going the wrong direction, from 6 cylinders to four, to two. :D

The V-Stroms are all great machines Wayne.  :cooldude:

I was looking seriously at one but decided that I didn't want to dip into my savings.  I bought the VStrom out of motorcycle money (half the cost of a Bonnie.) At my age, I don't take out loans.

Very nice bike selection Wayne.... I'm glad to see you on a bike.    Enjoy it... it looks user friendly... just stay off them logging trails  :cooldude:

I think you can get a hitch mount ramp for it and put it on the back of your Miata!!!  But I could be wrong   ;D
It's not WHAT you ride....it's  THAT you ride!

i'm glad to hear that you're not living the image of an old man!!  most people expect someone to just hide away in their home and die.  you're being an excellent example of how to grow old gracefully!!

that's a nice ride!!  as for going down hill in the cylinders, that's something you've got to work on!  6 to 4 to 2?  what's next, a bicycle???

:cooldude: keep riding!!

;D ;D Funny you should mention bicycle, Alph..  I tried that, a 27 speed hybrid.  It's sitting in the garage, the motor is just not powerful enough to make it go.!   The connecting rods are too worn out.

Way to go Wayne.   I been looking at a Helix, single cylinder, again.

Had one way back when, my Wing was in the shop and we had some Poker Runs coming up.  So I bought it on my birthday and put about 30,000 on it before I sold it.  I know I went through 3 rear tires on it.....

I rode it to Reno for a Rally.  You had to go to a specific spot to go on rides. They would only let so many out together.

Early on, 1st & 2nd day, I was in the last group to get picked.

3rd day the bunch from Canada, told the group designator, I was to be included in their group on any ride I was in the assignment area.  The Helix was a little sluggish in the hills.   So, I would pull out an pass on down hills and make a run for the next hill.

On this one particular run the Wingers got out and rode like old ladies.  We kept catching up to them.  So we would hit a hill and because of me the group would fall way back.    On the last hill, there was 12 Wings ahead of us.   It was a long downhill, and I pulled out and took off.   Passed the Wings going up and like a turd that I am, I put my hand back like I was offering to pull them.   Oh, did dat piss em off.   We got in for the afternoon, and it was the night of the luncheon.  It seems as how 1 Winger bitched to the organizers.    At the luncheon they asked who was riding the Helix.  I said I was, they then asked me to not partake in the rides tomorrow.   About 40 Canadians, all stood up and announced, he doesn't ride, we won't either.  One of the organizers said something else, I don't know what it was as I was getting very pissed, the Canadians started to walk out.  They took me with them.  One of the members went to the head honcho and demanded a refund for all of us, or, I would ride without any hassle tomorrow.   Guess who lead the group the next day.   I went as fast as the Helix would run downhill and go to a crawl up hill, but NO ONE from any group passed me.  The ride ended, I got 3rd in the Poker Run, which I donated to the Charity the weekend was for.

Rode the ole girl back to Iowa.    Didn't think I was going to get over a couple of mountains on I-80.   Glad no Trooper came by, as I could not maintain 40 MPH.

I would get in about 325 miles per day going to Reno & coming back home.

Kind of hated to see the old girl go, but I was offered way more than it was worth, and everything I have is for sale, except the wife, the Valkyrie and the Chevy Trike.

It's easy to tell.  The 1000 has two mufflers, the 650 has one.

The 1000 has a lot of torque but I'm told that the 650 is better off road, lighter and handles better.

Solo, that V Strom will carve corners with the best of them, better on the road than off in my opinion.  Great bike!  Hoser  :cooldude:

Wayne, glad to see you finally let the cat out of the bag on the 'Strom. Keep us posted on your experiences with it as you build up some miles. But by all means....ENJOY! :cooldude:

Karen

That is great news, Wayne, glad to hear you got something you like. I had looked at the smaller VStrom before I opted for the Majesty scooter, mostly it was storage and mileage that made the difference in my choice. That was a great read, RJ, it just doesn't matter what you ride, it just matters that you ride. The New England VRCC have been very accommodating about the scoot, especially after I got stopped on it by a Statey while doing 90. Looking forward to riding with the both of you next year. Enjoy!

:cooldude: glad to see you back in the wind Wayne...sounds like a great ride...maybe we can ride together sometime........ ;)
