Okay,

First of all I have no idea why I want to share my stupid thing that I did but... I can't keep it to myself...  As TP says... "What the HELL"..  (was I thinking).

My wife, son, friend of his, and I were piled into my Honda Civic and we swung by the Amaco to fill the car up prior to heading to the KU football game.  Only thing that I wasn't realizing while I stood waiting for the pump to stop and then I realized... "OH crap, IT'S Diesel!".   Yeah seven gallons of diesel was filled in my ten gallon tank...

The good news is that it was only two miles from home.  I walked back to the house got my wife's car and picked them up and off to the game we went.  We had a good time and now I am waiting on a buddy to come over and jump in the truck with me to tow my little reliable civic back to the house....   as homer would say "DOH!"   :crazy2:

So that is my dumbass story for all of you to laugh at... and yes amoco always freaks me out... who puts a damn green handle for gasoline... and a black one for diesel... (it was the smaller nozzle so that is why I didn't realize it until it was too late)   :tickedoff:

Hope you all are laughing  :coolsmiley:   cause I can only imagine the posts that are coming  :2funny:  :-\

Grumpy

Been there done that, stopped for gas in Louisiana a couple years ago, and pumped 4.5 gallons of diesel in my valkyrie. An Oh Crap moment, Bought a 5 gallon can and used a siphon hose to drain it. Got most of it out, maybe 1/2 a gallon left, filled up with high test and took off, ran fine but my brother in law behind me said it smelled like a city bus, second fill up cleared the last of it out.  I make it a point to look real close at the pumps now.  :uglystupid2:

One of our Vermin members filled his Valk with diesel once on a club ride. He went 2.75 miles before it died.

When you come to Europe ALL gas stations use the same colours as Amoco in the US so make sure you don't make the same mistake  ;) Maybe Amoco think only Europeans on holiday go to their gas stations

Thanks Guys for sharing other stories of the same mistake!!!

Good story Grumpy.... Maybe I can get a fellow valk rider to follow behind me after I fix it :2funny:   just kidding.  I am going to try and syphon out the fuel and change the fuel filter.  Or do you think I need to drop the tank?  I made it 100 ft and then it died.  My buddy came a helped me get it home.  Dad called me to see if I needed help this morning and kept telling me to be careful and not make a spark  :crazy2: when playing with fuel!!

He then proceeded on telling me that he is going fishing.  Thanks dad.... I got to work on my car and your going fishing   >:(  Fantastic!!! :'(

You guys enjoy your weekend!

WD...  Yeah man I was talking to Dana and he said you were here then we looked over and your bike was gone  ???   We'll have to meet up one of these times.  Wayne hope your family and you are doing well and look forward to finally meeting you.

Dont feel bad Joe. Occasionally the delivery truck drivers do it. When you drop a 1000 gallons of diesel into 5000 gallons of unleaded it gets expensive. That is if they catch it right away. Just the cost of the contaminated fuel is high. You just pray they catch it right away so we dont hurt any vehicles. We had one where the gas got dropped into the diesel and ruined two motors in pickups at a tune of about $30000

Hmmmm,  Joe, do I need mention a certain ""LAW" to which you've been exposed ??   :2funny:   :uglystupid2:

JimL=  You got that right!!!

And Sharkey... whew that would be a pricey mistake... I hope I didn't do anything to my engine  :-\  we will find out..  shortly

But this is more like it:
Head Banging

I realize it is not to the tune you put in, but every spring I still add a 1/2 gal of Diesel to the bike and about 3 or 4 to the car and truck.

Something my step-dad used to do and he was a drive ability Tech for Ford.   I just picked it up and still to this day do it.

I have a Diesel can for the portable turbo heater, so I rob some fuel in the spring, after the crap they put in to keep it from jelling in the winter.

Some chic did that in her bike in Hill City a few years ago. Thought it was funny myself.  :crazy2:

Is it just me or do you have to hit the diesel button on the pump to?

I saw a fellow put 100 gallons of unleaded into a motorhome and then wanted Flying J to buy it back.

Master Blaster

My EX son in law did the opposite, put gas in his diesel Dodge truck.  I got a frantic call from my daughter wanting to know what they could do to fix the dumbasses mistake.   I had them pour in a couple of gallons of cheap motor oil, and everything was cool, truck ran fine on it.  Wouldnt do it on a regular basis, but in a pinch!!!

Local farmer had his diesel and gas fuel barrels next to each other. Kept losing gas, someone was stealing it. He had the delivery driver change them around so only he knew it and not the thief. Found the neighbor kid's car stalled out down the road a few days later, he did not press charges he figured the motor damage was lesson enough. He never lost any gas after that.

ah ha ha funny Nitro!   You can raze me all you want at Sharkey's get together.  I am going to attempt to make it.   :cooldude:

Put new fuel filter in the civic and dumped the diesel fuel this morning....  Them folks who make fun of the "rice grinders" can kiss my arse.   At least honda was smart enough to put a drain plug on their tanks... Unlike the sorry asses that designed my chevy pickup w/ the piece of crap fuel pumps that you have to change out every four years, and they hold three times the amount of fuel....  What was GM thinking...  Least our Japanese friends were thinking of us dumbies who put the wrong fuel in the tank.   Just got done firing it up, smoked for a bit but is tapering off.

All is good...  ENGEMT!  You better not say anything... I know you need work on your bike

Intentionally???  Why?

Big IV

I didn't realize when I filled my bike gas tank with disel. THe woman behind the counter as I paid asked, "do you always buy disel?" NO, why? Oh crap.
I had to buy jugs of water, dump the water, then fill the jugs with what was in my tank. I left them sitting on the curb.  I'm sure someone came by and grabbed them for something. It beat letting it run out on the ground. I may have been late to work that day. I don't recall. I occasionally still get hit with nervousness afraid it will happen again.

A little dab'll do ya. It cleans and conditions. I, too put some in my cars. If they've been sitting, dump some in live with the smoke and watch the improvements. Take a whif of "fuel injector cleaner".
Waddya think "petroleum distillates are"? A quart will do about 25 gallons. Been doing it for years. Never had a problem even with cat converters.
If ya do it and it works, send a check.
If not, I'll say I said dont.
