I was a trumpet player in the WAC Band at Fort Mc Clellan Alabama in the 60's. I had gone horseback riding at the base of Cheaha mountain (we'd trade a 6 pack of the 3.2 beer from post, it was a dry county) and decided to ride the trail backwards to rejoin my friends, who were doing a more leisurely ride. The horse was having none of that, he or she took a loop and stopped right before going under a branch that tall enough for the horse, but not for the both of us. I was unable to find reverse, and when the horse went forward, I came off flat on my back. Went on sick call the next morning, bruised & sore, but nothing broken, and was told to take it easy. A few days later we were loading up the van prior to going out on tour. I was relaxing on the patio while the rest of the girls were working. They all came over for a break, and one of the sergeants said "Brooks, why aren't you helping?" I told her I'd hurt my back & wasn't supposed to lift heavy objects. She asked "How do you get out of a chair?"...l
