New rear tire mounted on front

Got back from my ride in the mountains and front tire worn out. I've had the Avon 130/90/17 rear tire for a couple months. Speedo seems to be reading about the same as the stock 150/80/17. Hoping to be running some roads in the next few days and will see how it does. I mounted it backwards as some has done. Looking at the pattern on my other bike which has a Cobra 150/80/17 on  it looks correct mounted backward. I didn't put beads in this one. I had beads in the Bridgestone and only got 9700 miles out of it. The last Bridgestone I ran on the other bike got 15000 miles and was balanced. Don't know if the beads caused this, but both bikes had beads and the mileage is down on both front tires. Anyway will take a picture tomorrow and post it.

I too am intrigued by a BIGGER front tire. I think I might try this.

The way the tire is made to take the torque when applying power from the engine while on the rear end. Once you put it on the front turning it backwards while applying brakes it's appling the force in the same direction that the tire was made for. Hope this makes since. The tire not really any bigger. By using the 90 size it keeps the speed reading the same. Also where our stock tires has lets say 7/32 thread depth these tires had  11/32 thread depth. Don't know yet if this tire gives more mileage. If I didn't have to work I would find out in a short period of time .

You chose the 90 because it's closer to oem diameter.

What about the 150-70-17.  Do you think the 90 is a larger diameter than the 150?

I agree that the added tread depth ought to translate into more miles.

A rear tire on the front is next in store for me also.

from the JW site that is a V-rated tire. V-rated tire will wear out faster, its a softer compound than H-rated which valkyrie OEM tires are. Also until a V-rated tires warms up it will have less traction than a H-rated tire. at elevated speeds, extended time at speed and elevated ambient temps a H-rated tire will wear faster than a V-rated tire.
