Have read on the forum the 2000 - 03 seats are much better seats comfort wise.  Any comments?

Seems an inexpensive way to get a better ride.

Thanks

having a 98, I can say the stock riders seat is less than the best.
Have tried 2000 seats and they are better. Wound up cutting/trimming my stock rider seat to get what I wanted.
A  2000 seat is a good way to go.
You'll soon hear about all the after market rider seats

I'm thinking about making the same change; what are the differences between a '99 and a '00-'03?  Actually, I think the stock '99 seat is pretty good; but  I switched to the Valk from a VTX, where you can't go 50 miles on a stock seat without pain.  Solved that with a Mustang.

Just get a cheap sheep skin.

If it rains, put it in the saddlebag.

The nose of the 2000-up seat is padded higher than the pre-2000 seats...keeps you from sliding forward and is in my opinion much more comfortable. Cheapest seat upgrade you can do...and pretty good bang for the buck.

Add a Utopia back rest and you're good for 100,000+ miles!

Thanks for the comments and the tip on the utopia back rest.  Upgrading  to 2000 seat and  Utopia backrest looks like a good  solution for the  investment.

Additional comments welcome.

After adding the utopia to my 2000 Standard, I don't think I could do without the backrest again. I have one on my IS now and it's still my favorite add-on.
When in doubt, ride.

Paid $79.99 brand new for this 2000 up stock Honda seat from HDL a couple years ago. It beats the '97-'99 seat all to heck!! It is shaped a lot like the Mustang aftermarket seat. One thing to note is the vinyl is a slightly different color & texture than the '97-'99 passenger seat & backpad.
Good upgrade if you ask me!

I agree the 2000 seat looks better but I think everyones butt is different. A friend of mine got a mustang seat on his 2001 a few years back and said I could have his 2001 seat. I liked the way it looked on my bike and liked the way it felt until I sat in it on long rides. I did three with it and every time my lower back hurt. I switched back to the 98 seat and have not had a problem. I guess you just have to try it. I gave his back to him and he sold it quick.
