Can the rear rim be mounted on the bike, without the pumkin?

I'm wondering, after I remove my rear drive, the pumkin, can the rear rim be left on the bike for support and for moving the bike?

I'm sure it can't, but thought I would ask first, as I've never removed it yet.

No.  The pumpkin is where the axle goes thru, so without the pumpkin, you have no place to hold the right side of the axle.
