Tank dent removal

Has anyone ever had a dent pulled out?  I have a guy that says he can do it.  They epoxy with special glue to a rod  and put it between 2 posts and screw it upwards to pull the dent.  It can't be reached from the inside.   Just curious if your paint held and didn't chip off with this method.  I could live with the dent no the paint ruined.

Tried it and the glue would not hold.
So, welded a rod and pulled a hole in the tank.

The tanks are sturdy and anything other than a shallow dent is difficult to pull out.

Finally got it pulled using the welded rod technique and had to weld the afore mentioned hole up.

I've never done it however I've heard you can plug the fuel line and fill with water and freeze....Tank should be off the bike if you try this    Also check out some of the Youtube video's on " Dry Ice Dent Removal " .

 I have tried the dry ice dent removal on a badly dented valk tank, It didn't work.! The dents were on the top of the tank where it is double plated and very thick.

Ah, yes, the Billy Mays As-Seen-On-TV "Ding King"  which uses hot-melt glue and not epoxy.

I use this device and it works, it's just slow.  It takes repeated pulls to work out a dent.  The only paint issue I've ever had was that it lifted a pinstripe decal once.

Used Ding King several years ago on tank, may find thread in archives. It is time consuming and took maybe ten pulls but I got it out. Dent was abt the size of a quarter, and not real deep. Just remember when the puller eventually pops off tank, its sudden and you dont want it to scratch or mess anything else up.

Had my tank fall off while working on it last spring   Waited till end of riding season(Michigan)to have it fixed. It was a dent forward and slightly higher than the Valkyrie emblem. Right on a compound curve area, not a good location. Local Ford dealer bodyman did the work off the books. Pinned and pulled as best he could, then body glassed it. Did the two tone paint(red/black) and silver pinstripe, then clear coat. Did a really nice job and cost me $165. I was a happy camper!   Check around and find someone who feels confident in what they can do and talk it over with them. I've learned a lesson and the only pain it cost me was in the wallet.
