shifter seal

shifter seal leaking on my 97 standard this is no big deal..however the rod going into the transmission feels pretty loose.It will wiggle back and forth about 1/4 inch.Is this normal ?Is there something else I need to look at or replace before replacing the seal??All the book shows is a needle bearing inside the transmisson,is there a bushing on the outer cover where the shaft goes thru??Thanks in advance

they all wiggle..mine wiggles just as much..replace the seal and you'll be good to go..that play is normal.

Thanks for the write up Daniel    I ordered a new seal yesterday from my local Honda dealer...Oil leak on a Valkyrie ain't cool .

I had "Tennessee" iced tea when I did mine a week ago..... Makers Mark with a single ice cube.

Had to at least have something that sorta looked like Ice Tea.... did want to jinx the fix per the instruxtions....
