On the way to work Monday morning someone from a side-road pulled into the left lane ahead of me, then someone  pulled into the right lane (the one I was in) ahead of me.  Tried to brake and doge into the other lane but couldn't get out in time.  As the trucks taillight grew to the size of a stop sign and I was partially sideways I laid her over.  As I was doing the 60mph tumble maneuver I was seeing ground-truck-ground-truck, I was thinking I have to try to roll away from the truck so I don't get run over too.  When I stopped tumbling and slip to a halt.  I heard something that sounded like a vehicle speeding away, my first thought (after realizing that most parts didn't and that I could move) was "No way that SOB gonna cause an accident trash me and my bike then drive away!!!!", I sat up (realized I could sit up) and saw that it was my bike still sliding down the highway.  Got really pissed then.  Got up stomping toward the bike ready to tear somebodies head off then a kid gets out of the truck scared an apologetic (boy am I glad for spell check right now or you wouldn't be able to read this little more shook-up than I thought).  The person that pulled out first had stopped, turns out she was a doctor at my hospital did a quick field neuro assessment then went to the hospital to warn them.  Looked over the bike, she was laying full on her left side right pod and saddle bag road rash, pod probably need replacing bag repairable?, Kid hadn't turned on his flashers very nice calling 911, anybodies phone number I could remember etc, told him to turn his flashers on, traffic was coming and not wanting to get over, even though bike was laying in the road with the headlights pointed at them.  Rolled her up and backed her out of the road.  Fairing trashed left inner panel, left pod, left saddlebag repairable both speaker covers trashed, CB antenna broken.  That was the in the dark survey pictures to come.  Kid has insurance, know how these companies work have already talked to my lawyer let him deal with the insurance company.  Cops ruled him at fault he admitted fault at scene said, he saw me coming but thought I was in the left lane, the one the vehicle in front of him had just pulled into.  Full face helmet shield has gauges in it which would be over the right eye, chinbar has gouges in it.  Leather jacket has a rip at right shoulder abrasions all over, left collar button is ground almost flat.  Toe of Harley boot leather has a flat spot and front part of sole is ground down.  My right ankle is sprained, abrasion on right elbow, left thumb hurts at the joint, left forearm starting to hurt.  Still a little loopy from the narcotics yesterday, may be contributory to my not typing too well.

I'm glad you are okay, Charles, and the bike is repairable. It's nice to see the kid taking responsibility, too. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

WOW! just glad that all in all your OK.
That sounds like one hell of a ride.
Hope all works out for you with the insurance and stuff.
Try to take it easy for a couple of days, the shock will wear off and then you will feel the real problems.

When working, I always hated to respond to a motor/vehicle PIA.     PIA=Personal Injury Accident.   Or a single vehicle (motor) PIA.

make sure all your clothing and safety equipment (helmet, jacket, watch, boots, gloves, etc.) are submitted as part of the claim.  You'll be surprised how much these items add up to $-wise.

Glad you're OK.  Good luck with settlement.  Sounds like a totaled bike for sure.

WOW!!!!!  Flashbacks to mine in '05!!!!  Glad you are OK.  Get checked up to make sure no residual problems.  I am still having problems.  Take care.

From a guy that just went through this, pull ALL of the little goodies that are not busted up OFF and put them in the garage. The bike will be totalled, if they get it with your goodies the $$ do not grow unless that part is damaged.

Start running #'s for parts now, and decide what you can live with scratched if you decide to rebuild.

Hey Charles, I'm glad to see you're ok. Bikes can be fixed or replaced but you can't! When i say "I feel your pain" I really mean it. Many years ago I dropped mine @ 130 mph and slid 300' on my right side and still have the scars to prove it! It was a 2 lane road hit a fender with my left leg and started sliding. People were running into ditches to keep from running over me and it's a weird feeing cause you can't stop yourself! But "something" told me to let go of my bike and then she went end over end demolishing the bike.

Now I know that "something" was the good Lord watching over me and you....and I didn't even break a bone but had a serious case of the asphalt rash!! Lol

Appreciate the support.  Am planning to rebuild, frame forks etc seem to be ok.  Yeah I know they'll probably total.  Gonna try and get the other insurance company to pay up and not total so I don't have to through salvage title and all that mess.  Totaling for mostly cosmetic stuff.  That said any body got a fairing and pods they might be might be willing to part with to get a fat lady back on the road, actually could probably drive now except for the left rear view, it went somewhere.

Again thanks for the support.  A 130 MPH slide that deserves a WOW in itself.

Glad you're Okay, anyway.  When I was new to driving, I almost did the same thing as that kid.  I learned pretty quick that sometimes things don't register on first glance, like a bike when you're looking for cars.  It's been my habit since then to look both ways twice.  Can't tell you how many times over the years I saw something on the 2nd look that I missed the first go around.

Kids aren't being taught how to drive anymore, at least around here.  My kids friends all seemed to have gotten a quick lesson one afternoon, and the parents sent them on their way.  I taught my kids in a Kmart parking lot a few days before I would even consider giving them lessons on the road.

Gear jammer: Lilo was pretty good, phone line was acting up had to have the sherrif dept. go to the house and tell her.  Would have been interesting to see that.  My daughter was worse at the scene, crawled all over the kid about almost killing her daddy.  Kelby the 12 yo had the twins up getting dressed for school, ironed their clothes and all.  Gotta love em.

Chili:  Yeah definatly seemed to be in slow mo certain details stand out some time elements just not there.  Apparently slid a good ways on left shoulder cause jacket button is almost flat but don't remember a slide there, remember tumble.

BG:  Just glad I was able to give first person report and not my wife or one of the kids having to give ICU updates.

Lilo said I was just trying to earn my nickname.  Kim (one of the kids) when I asked about getting my jacket repaired, a seam pulled loose, said there was someone in town that could make it look like new.  I said I just wanted the seam fixed I wanted to keep the battle scars.  Gonna save the helmet for teaching people about wearing a full face, modular and the chinbar stayed latched.

Stitch, don't be surprised if you don't get around quite so well for a while.  Hitting the pavement at any speed is rough on the old body and don't be surprised to find things that begin to hurt in the next few days that you were not aware of.  I'm glad that you were able to walk away, man!...JTL

When you get yourself and your bike back in riding shape, please consider not only teaching others from your experience, but also learning from it.  Taking an advanced rider course that has you practise emergency braking and swerving will help you better handle this situation in the future.  Yes, the person who pulled into your lane was completely at fault for the accident, but if your motorcycle didn't actually hit another vehicle after you lost control, then it could have been ridden through this situation without hitting another vehicle.

To all:  Practise your emergency skills in a safe environment regularly, and cover your brakes as you appoach any intersection that may have someone driving into your path.

Driver of truck said that he felt an impact, that may be why went down.  Did think I was in the clear then everything went hooey.
