Looking for ideas.

I have a set of old leather saddle bags lying around the garage.  They're quite large, but use the old "strap over the seat" mounting method.  This causes two problems. 1) The rear seat gets quite lumpy with a leather strap tied in several places.  2) The bags aren't supported where they hang down and could get sucked up into the rear wheel.    

So, I'm thinking of building a bracket out of tubing to hold the bags in place and off of moving parts.  I'd like it to be easily removable, with maybe just a few screws holding it in place.  I just don't want to go spend $300 on a bracket, especially since it'll likely mount to the fender rails which already has a trailer hitch attached to it. 

Has anyone built something like this??  Has anyone seen something built like this??  Can anyone post a picture or two of what I can attempt to build??

They make cheap saddle bag bracket. also you can take off the rear seat, lay the bags over the fender, replace seat.

Bent mine up out of 6mm rod and welded some tube to the ends for spacers works a treat
had to buy longer  fender bolts though.

I second that! I thought about trying to buy a "spare", to polish, but the cost is prohibitive. I might tear mine down again next winter, and polish it. But then, I'd need to look at polishing my triple tree, forks, etc, etc....where would it all end??

Where does it end???  It never ends!!!  Shiny bits are a sickness!!!
