Windshield Adhesive

Hi, I just bought a Standard and someone put what looks like door edge plastic chrome  around my windshield that really bugs me, especially at the top.

Any suggestions on when I remove it, how do I get the adhesive of. I know you're not suppose to use petroleum base products like WD 40, Goo Gone, etc on a windshield.

I have a medical grade adhesive remover...believe its called "Detachall". I have used it on plastic and other things and it seems to work pretty well... Its made to remove adhesive from skin and I know it will remove double stick tape...... Think it is veggie oil based.... Have to go out to the garage to see and IT'S COLD OUT THERE!!!!

Thanks, I didn't think about veggie oil- that oughta work!

What ever you use, make sure you try a test patch (not if you use the vegie oil). I used Goo-Gone on my microwave, and it melted the plastic housing.

I would go down to your local plastic shop with either the bike (weather permitting) or with the type of plastic, and ask them what to use. They should be the professionals.

I'm gonna guess it's not a Hondaline shield-maybe Memphis Shades.
I do not think WD-40 would hurt the plastic.
As previously suggested, try any product in an inconspicous place.

WD-40 isn't a petroleum product, it's based on fish oil. I can't say anything about windshields, but it will remove tape residue from glass, plastic and plexi like nothing else.

  Hey XGUY , I have used this stuff called Goo Gone on my windshield and no problems ... get an old white sock and pour some on the sock and dab it on and wait a minute and that left over adhesive will ball up and come off .... it looks like honey in color in a med sized plastic container .... Thanks ya'll for the help. Ricoman It is a Memphis Shade and went o their website and that's where I read not to use petroleum products. I have a Hondaline on my VTX and read it said not to use glass cleaner (and have til I read it)  and if not mistaken it also said not to use petroleum products.

PHredvalk, I didn't know WD-40 was fish oil based. I know it has it a certain smell that has some kind of chemical. But yes, I use it to remove adhesive and and a bunch of other stuff!!

Hey Geezer, That's great to know that you used it on your winshield. That's the best adhesive remover I've ever used. I've removed a lot of bumper stickers that were baked on for years!

 Hey XGUY , I have used Windex and other cleaners on my OEM windshield and no problems with the protective film peeling or coming off or spider webing , but the trick is , XGUY do not wipe off in a circular motion   , wipe off up and down only to avoid the spider web streaks on the windshield  and I used that Goo Gone  on my Memphis Fats windshield to take off a decal and no problems  ....
