Cobra exhaust - air fuel mixture

Just a question on the air/fuel mixture when installing a set of cobra pipes.

If one have installed a set of Cobra pipes, without rejetting the carbs, what is the recommended setting for the air/feul mixture - just leave it as is? Or how many screws out?

Just install the Cobra jet needles (simple).
Or for maximum perfotmance there are other options: Factory Pro jet kits, Dail-a-jet kits, etc.
Adjusting the air/fuel ratio screws to OEM specs and a carb sync will make any motor run better, but won't fix a lean condition caused by changing pipes.

I purchased an '01 standard (6125 miles) with Cobra pipes.  I changed the springs to Interstate springs and while doing so, decided to check the needles and spark plugs.  The needles were the stock ones (J6KJ).  When I pulled the plugs, they were very brown (rich condition).  I pulled the tank and air box to do the desmog and it had the stock filter.
At least for my bike, putting on different pipes did not cause a lean condition.  I would do some investigating before replacing the needles.  The lean condition does not seem to hold true for all bikes when replacing exhaust systems.

I too bopught a Valkyrie with Cobra pipes already installed.  The dealer I bought from said he was going to rejet it, but found it to be running perfectly so he didnt.  I rode it like that for a long time even though I suspected it to be a tad rich (like yours) after going with a K&N filter WITH the prefilter all is perfect

heinno.......the cobra needles suck....stay with the TOJO-HONDA needles.  i have a tourer with cobra pipes, and here is what works for me:  interstate ecm/interstate springs/6-degree trigger wheel/ 105 main jets/ 38 slow jets/fuel-air screws out from stop=1 1/2 turns.  plugs look great/runs great.  fuel mileage=39-42.

so what gas mileage does other guys get with the Cobra pipes - what changes did you guys make to your bikes.

Also, does the bikes perform the same with the Cobra's baffles in and out?

heinno....../performance wise, maybe a tiny little bit better with the baffles in (with the baffles in it doesn't ever pop.) with the baffles out - about the same, but does occasionlly pop on decell.  mpg is about the same with or without.

yea, tested mine a bit today - just a bit of a flat spot on starting to open the trottle, but once it kicks in it seems fine. I did not hear any popping with the baffles in on decel, but did notice that she pulls smoother when she is hot - before she was pulling smooth from the start and had no flat spot.

So best options for cabra pipes is:

6 degree trigger
K&N Filter with prefilter
38 slow jet
105 main jet
air/feul screws - out 1.5 turns
baffles in
