I Refuse to Tip-Toe Through Life !!!

Taylors, SC

« on: February 22, 2011, 07:15:24 PM »

Done a quick search and found nothing. Just wondering about putting some Shorty Ape an a standard.  Pretty sure that I will need to lengthen everything but not so sure. The bars I have are narrow and about 10" up.  Just really worried about the throttle cables.

Curious tho.

The ones I am looking at are free and not very high. Just testing them on top of my bars, my hands will still be below my shoulders.  Think ten and two no your steering wheel, where are your hands ?? They are up close to your shoulders. Look at the drivers in NASCAR, their hands are up. Just doing it for the looks and maybe(?) some added comfort.

I always thought my Valkyrie could benefit with a couple more inches in the bars or the risers.

I have a set of mini apes on my bike from the PO. for those who know, what sort of differences are there between a mini ape and the stock bars?

I would think getting a set of "apes" is better than getting  tattoos.  At least when you get tired of looking at them and decide they're silly, you can take the ape hangers off.

Spad; the image has to be online somewhere, photostash, facebook etc. Get the image up on your screen, not the album, the pic itself, right click on it, choose Properties and copy the address (URL). Go to your message here, click Insert Image, will appear. paste the URL between the ][ in the middle.

Bill kindly sent me his pictures, to post for him, with these comments:

Quote
Roger,

Please post the pictures you think are best. I didnt need to lenghten any cables or hoses. The clutch hose is the tightest at full lock to the right. I did re-route some wires and the throttle cables.

The only real problem I am having is with the Kuryaken grip on the throttle side. It is tight and acts like a throttle lock, and is snug in the Honda casing.?.?

These are 10" rise Apes.  I will be going up to 12" with a a little more pullback.   With the 10", I didn't have to change any of the wiring, cables, or hoses.  I expect to have to change everything when I move to the 12" as things are "snug" with the 10" but doesn't impede anything at all.

I bought my bike used years ago and it has 6" risers. Are the 6" risers a standard item or seperate. I can't imagine the handlebars being any lower

I could be wrong, but I think the stock riser is 3.5".

Hey G, you'll still need to change cables, but wouldn't it be simpler to keep the same bars and go to a bit taller/pullback risers??

The OE risers are closer to 3 1/8".
