I saw these on Directline's site...anybody had any experience with them? Any good testing done, etc? They're expensive, and I wonder if they actually work better than the Honda OEM filters, or are they just a "lifetime" filter alternative?

Currently using Amsoil 10-40 and Honda filters....

I googled this and got mixed results. The vendors, of course, think they're wonderful; The dirt bikers hate them, too much hassle and too much crud passed thru them; the street bikers don't like the hassle disposing of the gasoline needed to clean them. Just a sampling of the first 7 results in google. I have no experience with this item.

Thanks Fred...
I did find an HD club website that had bought a bunch of them, but no feedback yet.

Cheers!

SS mesh oil filters are a nascar race track item that was endorsed by Smokey for sustained high rpm race engines. regular paper filters aerated the oil according to him.
the micron filtration of them are terrible for street use.  supertech filtes are about 2.87 and provide much better filtration. want better filtration, amsoil, pure 1 or mobil 1 filters. I use pure 1.
oil filtration should be in the 10-15 micro range. the best is with a bypass filter system which would be down to 1 micro which extends oil change intervals to 20-30k miles or longer for cars and 100k miles for diesels.

I would think that after the second time of cleaning the thing you would question why you ever bought it.

Purolator Pure One PL14610. I use a PL14612 on the Wing. Mobil 1 goes 10K between changes and the oil looks almost new at the change.

Why?????   Spin on filters have protected for billions of miles without the clean up hastles.   Back in the day, talking long long ago, filters that you had to take apart to clean every oil change was the norm.  Hated every oil change.  When there are Valks running around with hundreds of thousands of miles on the clock using regular filters, why look for a solution to a problem that doesnt exist. I also like the Super Tech filter and use them on all my stuff.  Dont miss the clean up chore one bit, and am confidentthatthe new filter is absolutely clean.  Ask Solo 1 or RJ about the hastles of oil changes on vintage iron.   I think modern technology is great.

If you really want to improve your filtration then the Spinner II type centrifuges are the way to go.
Bit big for our bikes though.
Scania 6 cylinder diesels only use a centrifuge, no other filter. Their V8's only use a filter for the turbo oil feed.
If you have ever seen the crude they remove you would be impressed by the way they work.

If you bring a vehicle into the shop for an oil change and it has a reusable oil filter. we change an extra $10.00 for the change.

Our hourly rate is $75.00 and it takes about 10 - 15 minutes of screwing around to clean the damn thing.  Usually takes about 7 shop towels to clean up the inside of the filter holder.   Shop towels have been on their way out for the past 10 to 15 years.   We use paper towels.  We buy 100 -150 rolls at a time at Wally-World.

Take all reusable oil filters and stuff em when the sun don't shine, unless ya is a sun bathin on your tummy.

I had a bunch of 50's Chevy's with the add on filter, oh they were a pain in the arse and without synthetic oil we changed oil around 2,500 to 3,000 miles.  We lived in the country on a gravel road.   It got very dusty in the summer if it didn't rain.  If it rained, it turned to mud.

Well, after reading all the evidence, looks like I may switch from the Honda to a PureOne. I asked about the K&P mesh filter because so many people seem to like the K&N "lifetime" air filters, but I see that the oil filter is a different animal...
Thanks for all the thoughts and responses!
