I left from CT for a trip to FL this morning. After about 300 trouble-free miles, here's what happened. After filling up with gas, I started my Valk. No problem with starting or running, but the following did NOT work:
Speedometer, tach, gas guage, tail lights brake lights, horn.
Bike runs fine. Radio works. Headlights work. Everything I have wired to the accessory panel works fine.

Anybody have this happen to your I/S? If so, what do I check for?

Not familiar with the I/S but I would guess a fuse or bad connection.
Sorry cannot help more

Check your battery for condition!

May be your alternator has lunched!

stock relay in common with all of those?

Check your fuses, all of them are on the same circuit. On my I/S when the alt. went south no warning until instrument panel started acting up. I now wired in a volt meter to keep this from happening again. I was over 250 miles from home. I ended up renting a U-haul truck to get her home. Good luck keep us posted.

If your alternator is out, your bike will run just fine for a while, then it will quit. If you sit for a while the battery will recharge itself enough for the bike to start and run again, for a while, or few miles and quit again. You can hip hop yourself for quite a ways in an emergency. Don't bother with changing the battery if it does this, just count on another alternator. Good Luck.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Alternator is charging at 14.2 volts. Fuses are good. Bike starts and runs fine, put another 100 miles on after the problem started. Can't find the problem.

A blown stop/tail light fuse caused all the electrical problems. After replacing it, all is good. I may never know what caused the fuse to blow, unless it blows again and I'm forced to locate the root cause. Thanks everybody for trying to help. So off we go to sunny (I hope) Florida. I got lucky.  :)

Boz,
Check your ground under the right side cover if i remember correctly. I had the very same problem 2 years ago.

Where are ya now?

Hey BOZ...  Just a shot in the dark here, but I had a similar problem long ago...  Did ya hit a big bump, or bottom out, hard?  Look under the rear fender, above the wheel.  I bottomed out once so hard, that the tire 'stripped' the wires, and when exposed, they caused a fuse to blow, when I put on the brakes.

Won't hurt to take a peek...

I remember reading about something similar on here recently. Here is the thread from Kingbee about it. It sounds like different circuits, but you never know. Was also on an I/S.

Hope it helps.

Check your 55A main fuse. Had similar issues and that was the culpret. Had to remove it to see where it had broke. The spare is on the side of the assembly. Hope ya get to enjoy the rest of your trip.
