I have an "I'm an idiot" kind of question.

I have the starter relay repair kit, and I know I have to move the red wire and connector to the vacant slot to its side.

How do I get the connector to release from the black plug?

See, I told ya it was stupid.

TIA

I'm sorry if I was unclear, I am replacing the black plug that plugs into that relay. There is a repair kit from an 80's gw that does the trick, but there is one wire that needs to be moved in the plug, and there is a proper way to release it.

I am unable to macgyver the proper way and I don't want to break this thing...

If is like some plugs you run a very small flat blade screwdriver up the female side of the terminal to be removed to bent a small piece of metal down and the terminal will plug out the back of the plug. Then bend it back out and install it where you want it. It will slide in and the metal piece will lock it back in place.

To depress the barb, I use a pick instead of a precision screwdriver because a pick doesn't deform the terminal as much as the screwdriver. There are terminal extractors available for the expressed purpose, but they're around $25. With the pick, you have to pivot it 90-degrees, down. The access slot for the barb-release is looking in from the joint end (the opposite side shown in your pic).

I usually use a needle, or just my thin bladed pocket knife, which ever is handly.
