What's the skinny on these bikes ??
Thinking   of   buying   one  .
However , I am a little afraid of being seen on a scooter looking bike .

Anyone else got one  and  and 411 you can give .

Thanks

Kidd

If I like to go fast , does that make me a racist ???

Capt. Morgan

I rode a 850 Burgman once. Yes it is somewhat fast,....but it is still a scooter.
Not to be a snob or anything like that, but it will never truely replace a true motorcycle.

ALWAYS QUESTION AUTHORITY!

Depends on your needs, what your looking for. They are pretty quick, very comfortable, reliable and you can still smoke a Hardley :cooldude:
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!

A friend had one he used as a company car for his computer business. He rode it between towns. He insisted I try it out.  It was fun and gets up and goes pretty well.
If it doesn't fit your notion of high fashion, blow it off.

Not a Burgman, but the spousal unit had the Honda version, the Silverwing a few years ago...

It might be a scooter, but it'd take most Harley's off the line (I know, that doesn't take much...) In fact, the spousal unit would sometimes go out "Harley Hunting" with it. They HATED it when (HER WORDS!) "The fat chick on the scooter with floppy cat ears on her helmet would waste 'em off the stop light".

I rode it a bit myself, it was quite fun. I'd get some funny looks being the huge dude on the scooter, then I'd fall back, romp it, and fly by 'em doing 115+ (It'd do 117 with me on it...)
Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

+1 on the Silverwing, and the Burgman is almost identical, but for 50 extra cc's.  My ex had one, and it ended up as my preferred ride for short trips.  I had a VTX 1300, and the Silverwing was quicker all the way to the top end, which was just about the same on both bikes, 115-120.  It's the strangest feeling; you just roll on the throttle, lift up your feet and you're moving.  If you get on the throttle, it sounds like an Evenrude, and the next thing you know, you're doing 75.  Tons of onboard storage space, clock, tach, fuel gauge, linked brakes (plus an ABS version).  Handles very well in the twisties with plenty of ground clearance.  The downside for my ex was that she was petite, and it's a little tall in the saddle, 31" as I recall; I had the seat reworked with gel foam to lower it.  Plus, at speed, it's a light machine with Tupperware.  That means it catches a lot of wind and moves with it.  Take it for a test ride on a windy day, it can be a handful, but overall, they're awesome machines.

I've had the 400 Yamaha Majesty for 6 years, love it! Burgman is bigger. Scooter, so what? 2 wheels, responsive as heck & have been stopped twice, once for 90mph, and last fall for 80 mph, no tickets (I believe that they were stunned that a scooter could do that). Aerodynamics in wind not a problem, rock steady. I believe the extra weight of the subwoofer in the under seat compartment helps considerably in this area. Mileage averages 60, 50 if I push hard, and 75 once when I was real leisurely.

thumper

Buddy of mine got one.  Told him I wasn't ridin' with no scooter.  All I saw of him all day was his tail light.

Not nearly big enough or enough chrome for me but he loves his and it rocks!

Can't ride anything that can be detailed in under two hours.

On of the guys in our group has one. Sold his VTX for one and man that little think moves plus it get's great milage.

DIGGER

My uncle 81 yrs old has ridden motorcycles all his life, mostly BMW's.  2 years ago he got to where he would fall in parking lots trying to get his leg over the BMW when getting on or off.   He sold the BMW and bought a Suzuki Bergman and has excellent luck with it.   He rides it all over the United States.    He works for Continental and will leave Houston on his Bergman and go for 2 or 3 days and park it somewhere and get a free flight home on a Continental flight and go back later on a free flight and travel 2 or 3 more days and catch a flight home.   It works perfect for him.  He loves to travel on his Bergman.  Says he can run all speed limits with no problem.

I met a Burgman owner at last year's RoadRunner Touring Weekend in Bristol. He was from South Carolina and he and his Wife came to Bristol on the Burgman Executive model. He told me they had traveled from SC to Arizona, New Mexico, and across the border into Mexico. Never had a problem.

The manager of a multi brand dealership here in town told me that if he had his choice of any 2 wheeler that they sold for a long trip, it would be the 650 Burgman Executive. He's a big guy and said it's really comfortable for him.

All of this positive info kinda got me to thinking, but haven't done anything yet. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

The guy ride the most with has one, Not my cup of tea but he has a bad back and wouldn't be riding if he did not have one. I quit ragging him when I was going down I75 around 95mph and he passed me. He rode his to Upstate NY from Ocala Fl last summer. Said it was a nice ride.

So what if its a scooter? Riding is riding. A different seating position doesn't change that. If you buy a step through frame scooter you may want a sticker that says "this is not a HD" since Harley Davidson created the first step through frame scooter (although they don't brag about it much anymore).  The Burgman is a much better bike than the HD Topper if you just want to one up HDs. But riding is riding. Enjoy the ride.
