OK,so I've run out of adjustment at the throttle,

 I've got the tank off doing other maint and I see the throttle cable and was wondering if I can adjust it at the carbs to give me more adjustment up top and longer life? and if so,which one would I adjust,the inside or the outside cable? I got the air box off to at the moment.

Yes you can introduce or reduce slack at the carb end and take it up or out at the handlebar end.
I just do not see that it will change lifespan.

Is there a specific problem other than play and adjustment?

I guess I really didn't mean life span,just needed some more adjustment at the other end,but I figured it  out,thanks.

HOTROD......WHEN THE FACTORY HAS THE CABLES IN AND ADJUSTED, THEY SET THEM SO THAT IF AND WHEN YOU WERE TO REMOVE THE SWITCH PLATE YOU COULD ADJUST ALL OF THE TENSION (PUT MORE PLAY INTO IT) OUT AND REMOVE THE CABLES WITHOUT HAVING TO GO BELOW THE TANK TO DO IT.  IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU GIVE IT THE EXTRA ADJUSTMENT.  I'M LIKE YOU....I LIKE TO HAVE THE EXTRA UP TOP.

Yep. took my slack out of the bottom and some at the top. I have no play. Feels better.

You probably should have some play in the cables.

Reason being that no play with the front end in a straight alignment will mean there will be some binding when you turn the bars to the lock at each end of the travel.

Now the binding will eventually ease up some over time, but this simply is from wearing-in the cable system which is trying to get back to status-quo.
