Need a little help on diagnosing the illness afflicting my Audiovox cruise control.  I followed directions from the "Shop Talk" segment and installed it on my '99 Interstate about four years ago—been problem free until now.  The control head no longer lights, though I do have power to it and the servo with it keyed on.  Bought a new control head and it will not light either.  Followed the testing section in the Audiovox manual and the LED in the servo lit up a few times during testing, but not any longer.  Checked all the connections—all appear as they did when I first made them.  Any help is appreciated in advance.

i know this might sound too easy, but sometimes that's the most overlooked, check the fuse?

Second thing I did and checked it again...still good.  thanks

Unplug the crusie at the back of the servo and take a test light then push the bottoms on the switch to see if the servo is getting power and that will also tell you if you switch is working. I have seen several of the servo's go bad I am on my third one but have had a crusis for over 10 years.

Sure sounds like a faulty ground to me..if you are probing with a test light and you get some of the indicating lights to come on,,,the probe is supplying a ground for you...

Shot in the dark. Check your brake light bulb to be sure it is working. Unit gets it ground thru brake bulb filement. Unless you have it working off a relay.

Have you perchance added any LED lights for the brake/running lights? If so, you need to install a Normally Closed relay in the ground circuit from the servo. My cruise became intermittent (and irritating) on a trip a couple years ago and I found a loose ground as was suggested earlier.

Thanks for the input/suggestions.  I will try each and hopefully one is the solution.

I don't think I quite understand your instructions.  I pulled the back off the servo, exposing the circuit board and the pins on the back of the unit--is that what you meant?  Scared me some when it popped off in my hand.  Do I test those pins or the wires entering the plug, which has power where the wire enters the white pin clip.  Actually, tested all the wires that should have power--the red & orange, the gray which powers the lights for the panel...checked the grounds....man, I am at a loss.  Cannot get the LED to light anymore when testing with the SET button on the controller.  Is my servo shot?

Well, just to close out this one thread.  After talking with a tech from Audiovox and running through his suggestions to no avail, I connected for the second time, a new control panel purchased for $35 and viola, it lit up and the servo LED operated as noted in the manual for a "good" test.  So, I will put her back together and hope this is it.  Thanks for the suggestions.

 >:( >:( >:(  Well, wrong again.  The darn thing stopped working altogether so I bought a new one from a thread I found here for $170.  I believe the company name was Murph's...anyway, got to put it in this weekend and see how things go.
