Baker Air Wings - Sticker Shock

About fell off my chair when I saw the price for a new set of Baker Air Wings for the I/S....$220 +!!
WTH... seems like just a few years ago they weren't much over $100.. (Well maybe its been more than just a few years  .

Wouldn't leave home without the Bakers on my Tourer but, from what I can recall, they didn't seem to be as much of a benefit on an I/S (just a personal observation).  Would still prefer to have them on my new (to me) I/S, but not sure if I'm willing to fork over $220+.

So, I'm looking for potential alternatives.  Saw a post from 1999

I have the Bakers on my I/S and yes they work as advertised. However Honda had a set of wings that atached to the I/S pods that were cheaper, did virtually the same thing, were less intrusive, and did not cause the pods to crack. And they are still available for the I/S models.

I did a few searches but was unable to find info on the "honda wings that attach to the pods".

Anyone have input on these and/or know if they are still available?

I am about 99% sure the one's pictured above attach to the I/S windshield, not the pods. I HAD a set of the ones that attach to the pods... sold them. You should still be able to find a set though.

yep saw those but they apparently mount on the faring.. (not sure exactly where though).  They are around $193 on HDL. 

BTW.. the quoted post was from 2009 not 1999.. (jeeshh time warp I guess..) and, according to the post, they mount on the pods.  Maybe I will try to contact the person who posted .. "MOMZ".

The top pics are IS OE windscreen side pieces... have them on both my IS's.

The problem with the Honda pod wings is they make it almost impossible to get on most Hi-way pegs (your legs will hit them)....maybe not the Mic-O-Pegs down low, but the 4050 Kurys as usually mounted for sure.  I have never seen the Honda pod wings on an IS anywhere.  They are still for sale on HDL, I believe, because they never sold many.

I have had both on my I/S for 10 years now.  The radiator deflectors are NO substitute for the Bakers.  They help deflect the hot air a bit outwards...keeps it off your legs.  The Bakers either block a lot of wind, or bring a lot of wind into your upper body depending on what you want.  I have found that when it is cold out, I can adjust the radiator deflectors to catch the hot air coming out of the pods and with the Bakers closed, it is like turning on the heat in your car.  I wouldn't be without either.   

Oh, I paid $120 for mine in 2001 at the VOAI Ride-IN at LaCrosse.  Mr Baker his self installed them.  Told me to go for a ride and if I wasn't happy, he would take them off and refund my money.  I didn't get 3 blocks before deciding it was money well spent.  The day was hot as hell but the Bakers made it so much nicer.

I added both sets of the Hondaline air deflectors to both my Interstates. They each work wonderfully and have that 'designed in' look rather than the 'added on' look of many 3rd party pieces. I really like their form and their function.

Reminds me of  a "Baker Moment" I had on the way to Texas... I was freezing the first morning,
drizzley and 40 or so... I looked down at my open Bakers, closed them, and it was like putting
a heater on my legs below the knee...

I have a set of baker's in the classified. I agree, they are a must have in any weather.

Just wish I had a Valk to put them on!!!!

I had to tilt my Baker's a little to make them clear my fairing... yours are really tilted...

It sez in the instructions "Don't use Baker's with handlebar tassels or you'll be sorry.." or something like that... be
careful...

Assuming I'm looking at the pic correctly I think the "Honda Wind deflector" attached to the Pod is tilted quite a bit; not the Baker's.
Tassels.. yep, I would be a bit concerned about those as well... Bad things could happen..
