is there an easy way to just change out the bulb socket to 1157 / 3157 ?  and use  a dual color light for signals and brakes?

shouldn't be that big a deal, if you have your own lights/sockets...there are three wires to the 1157, ground, light, and turn,,,,just makes sure you've got a ground on both sockets/bulbs you put in place
On second thought, there may not be three wires physically,,,but the leads to the 1157's are the hot ones and the base/case is the ground...

What is a dual color light?  Do you mean an LED bulb replacement?  If so, you could use the stock amber lens for both red running lights and amber turn signals.

you can get replacement sockets from autozone that are dual contacts and JB weld them into the rear housings. You'll have to pull power for the running lights from the lics. plate light. Make sure you get a good ground on the socket.Sylvania 3496 bulbs have a brighter element  for the blinker the a stock 1157.

This is the only way I can think of where you'll get 2 different colors for brake and turn signals out of the same turn signal pod.  http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/ledturnsignalmod.htm

You can get a set of front turn signals (1157s) from Pinwall for cheap and mount them in the rear.

Or you can get a controller to convert 1156 rear signals to run-turn-brake (I have this on my supervalk).

In either case, you need red lenses to replace the ambers since you may not run full-time ambers in the rear.
