Ok  I know from reading here that this question is likened to hitting a hornets nest with a baseball bat, :uglystupid2: but here goes anyway.... What oil (type) should be run in the fat lady?  the Previous idiot..er I mean owner just said  "oil" what do you guys think. I was raised with castrol products.  Does she need motorcycle oil or will car oil do????
Yea though I ride through the valley of the Shadow of Death I shall fear no evil. For I ride the Baddest Mother F$#^er In that valley!

Motorcycle oil doesn't have certain additives that might make your clutch slip, some/many
non-motorcycle oils do.

Thunderbolt

on the bottle.  I use Mobil 1 MX4T motorcycle oil.  I only change every 5000 or so miles,

Red Diamond

Mobil 1 15-50w, quites the gear whine, non energy conserving.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

GOOSE

shell rotella-t 15-w-40 heavy truck oil.  i run it in my trucks almost 3-million miles/all the cars i own/and have run it in my bikes from the start.  not a problem in  any one of them.

Here's Chet's FAQ page.  http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/  Whatever oil you choose, make sure it doesn't have "Energy Conserving" in the bottom half of the circle on the back.

+1 on the Mobil 1 15-50. I switched from the Amzoil which was my all time favorite motorcycle oil. I just refuse to pay their prices. I can tell no difference between the two. I may possibly start "hearing" things soon, as I am in the process of quieting down my straight pipes with  home made screw in Cherry bomb mufflers.
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!

Been using Mobil 1 15w50 in 5 qt. jug from walmart. But walmart quit handling it. Worked great in my valks for years.

That's why I bought my local Wally World's stock when they put it on the discontinued shelf.

Just to chime in....... I have used Valvoline 20w 50 in all my bikes for the last 20+ years.... all hondas and no problems...  Whatever oil you use the best thing is to change it on a regular basis..... I change mine every 3000... still cheaper to use regular oil and change it more often than to use Synth and let it go longer...  its the metal dust/chip, excess gas , heat and time that effect any oil... changing it more often gets the crap outta the motor....... Just my opinion...

Another vote for the Mobil1 V-twin 20-50 oil. I like how smooth it makes the bike feel.
Thanks!

Original owner told me he ran Castrol synthetic 20w50. Anyone else run this? Opinions? Good or bad?

Just make sure it meets the specs and doesn't have energy conserving in the circle on the back label.  I started out using Mobil 1 Racing T 10w40.  Then tried Rotella T Synthetic 5w40.  My engine got real noisy.  Switched to Mobil 1 15w50 and my engine quietened down .  I like it and am not switching if I can help it.
