TIRE QUESTION

I put on my first tire (Avon) myself this past weekend. . . . and for the life of me, I couldn't find the "mark" on the tire where you line it up with the valve stem to balance the thing. I was told to look for a little round circle. Does Avon even use a "mark?" The good news is, it went on without a hitch and I'm glad I did it. . . . It appeared to run ok, but I only could put on about 15 miles. Thanks!

Avons do not have the dot.  I just put the tire on the rim and slide the axle through the rim and set it on some jack-stands and spin the tire on the rim to balance it as good as I can, then I air it up to seat the bead and re-balance with lead weights.

Like he said Avons don't have a DOt, my last 2 Avons didn't need to be balenced!
The next one on front i'll probably use the "Balence Beeds" or "Ride On sealant" in it to balence it!

I was lead to believe the dot marks the heavy side of the tire and goes oppisite the valve but maybe the avons are even all over

Most MC tire marks locate the tires light spot. And recommend locating it at the valve stem, assuming it to be the wheels heavy spot. It's not always the wheels heavy spot. My wheels heavy spot is about 10" from the valve stems. I match up to 'my' determined heavy spot and more often then not I never require any balance weights.

With the car tire I put on I balanced my wheel sans tire, then mounted the tire to determine the tires light spot, pulled the weights, spun the tire and 0 balance weights needed to finish it out. You can do the same with an unmarked MC tire too.
