that is exactly correct!  a good lesson for anyone doing twisties.

If you watch the video exactly the rider does a typical Harley rider move "rear brake only" and at that piont he lost the ability to turn the bike, I am not trying to stereotype Harley riders but I cannot count how many times I have had the debate that if you ride a Harley the rear brake is your primary brake

I think he didn't realize the road cut back to the right at first. By the time he realized it his ass was already overloaded and his eyes were fixed on where he didn't want to go, and your bike follows your eyes. His buddy nearly followed him into the hole too for the same reason.

At least they wanted to go faster, many of the HD's I've gotten stuck behind there didn't want to let anyone around them and don't want to keep up a reasonable pace either. I usually just pull over and let them get ahead for a few minutes and then ride till I'm stuck up their rears again. When you ride 600 miles to get there that kind of stuff is frustrating.

When a faster vehicle comes up on my rear, in particular on the dragon, I get out of their way and motion them around so they can enjoy their ride.

The last time I was at the dragon I was behind an old lady in a p/u truck....I mean little ol lady from pasadena type.  in front of her was a pack of old harleys.....no colors (that was the good news)  anyways.....the harleys pulled over to let granny pass.  Then the 4 bikes we were with took advantage of the decent act and we cruised on by too.  Thanks and waved..........just thought it was hilarious to see a pack of harleys pull over from 10-15mph to let granny go by

So this particualar episode happens very often , seen Goldwings, Harleys, Valkyries and the like do almost the same thing.

Intimidation is a factor, fear kicks in, brains go south, and it's all thrown to the wind at that point.

Best steer clear of the Dragon if you are faint of heart or easily intimidated.

Word of warning is all.

But I absolutely love the Dragon and Deals Gap.

You go where you look sure is true. A few years back  I ran off the road on a sharp curve at a railroad crossing in southern Indiana.  I regained my concentration after I went flying crossing the tracks NOT at the planked part.  The Valk briefly got air but I ended back on the road............and stopped.  Scared the .... out of me.

My fault plus I was following someone and NOT riding my own ride. Being a flatlander and knowing how soon I lose my concentration now at my age,  I definitely ride my own ride now.  I know my limitations and admit it.  Other riders from the flatlands probably should do the same.  Riding Deals Gap or the Snake or ??? , is not the place to let your ego take over...........at least until you find the groove.

I have nothing more to prove. I'm now in the sedate riding group and I sure would let everyone go past me without a twinge on my part...............except HD riders who think that their HD's will outrun a 1000cc Suzy Ltwin on the straights.

A lot of truth said here. I haven't gotten to ride in the Southern Mountains for a couple of years and I really miss it. Not looking good for this year either.

As a flat lander too, I agree with what was said above concerning concentration or keeping up your "tunnel vision" if you follow me. Here in Indiana, seldom do I get to ride a series of corners which lasts more than a few minutes. In those circumstances it's easy to keep focused. For me, the hardest thing about riding the seeming endless mountain roads of other states is keeping my eyes on the line I want to take for hours on end.

My first weekend at Deals Gap I got way closer to the edge of the road than I intended just by letting my eyes follow a motorcycle skid mark leading into a damaged tree. I only looked at it for a split second but there is no time for a lapse in attention on that road.

I sure miss getting down there though. What a beautiful place the Southern Mountains are. And those of you that ride there daily tend to be very good at the "art of motorcycling". I don't think you could ride long there if you weren't.
