I have a /97 standard Valk and was wondering what gas mileage you get without pulling a trailer ?

Depends on how hard you twist the right grip. I have an i/s. Solo ridin between 70-75 mph gets me right around 30 mpg. Keep it under 60 mph gets me around 36-38 mpg. You get really carried away with that right grip-you'll drop into the twenties easy. It's all subjective though. Yer gonna get all kinds of answers to your query though. Lotsa factors in fuel mileage. Whats yer fun worth to ya?? I try really hard not to worry to much about it though. Fill her up crank her up head on out. Lotta other m/c i coulda bought for fuel economy. Got a dragon. Ya wanna play-ya gotta pay. In my book-worth every nickel and then some. Ain't pickin on ya-just love ridin my phat ghurl. RIDE SAFE.

Got a '99 I/S that will do a consistent 40MPG at 65-70MPH. Also a 2K Tourer that is usually aroung 34 MPG at the same speed. 2Soon says it depends on your riding style, I think you can add the bike into that equation also. The I/S's are tuned differently than the Standards or Tourers. Tinkering with the bike is another issue, I don't do that, both are stock as from the manufacturer.

Lately, I've been getting about 37 MPG. Thats a combo of around town and road (not highway) miles. I just don't enjoy the superslab or 4-lane roads, so I try to stay away from them as much as possible. When I go up to Vandy for my tests and check-ups, I take the two lane back roads - lots of pretty scenery.

I have a '97 with a 6 degree trigger wheel and it gets about 38 mpg riding at normal speeds....where these Valks eat up the gas is when you're running thru the gears in my opinion....I've found moderate excelleration and keep it under 3000 rpm and gas mileage improves....I can have fun riding this motorcycle at any speed, we all know they can make you dance...

35 all around avg 37-40hwy*... But I have some bad habits I attribute to the Fat-Lady's ability & love for acceleration!

*hwy mileage subject to degrade with the Lady's love for speed. "I've been told" mid-upper 20s at 3 digits ... Or "so i've been told

Almost 4 years ago, the first day I had my 2000 I/S and riding it home from Colorado, my mileage on each tank was:  22.7; 29.3; 25.1; 22.9; 25.4; 23.6; and 27.4.

Looking at those first day figures I thought maybe I should slow down a little and stop twisting the wrist quite so enthusiastically.

This past week I traveled from Texas to the Cheaha gathering and back.  My mileage for each tank for that trip was:  39.8; 35.9; 37.5; 33.9; 37.8; 38.4; 40.0; 40.4; 37.6; 34.8; 32.7; 38.1; 40.9.

Most of this trip was 70-80 mph and a goodly portion had a pretty good headwind.

I am sure you can see a marked difference between the two.
