Do you have to remove the petcock from the tank to replace the parts?  Or can this be done with it still in place.  Of course I know the tank will need to come off the bike.  Just wondering if I will need to drain the tank.  And please, no Pingle recommendations.  I want to keep it original.

I have 2 Valks, a '97 and '00.  No problems yet, but I am thinking I better get 2 cover sets ordered and change out the parts before I do have a problem.  The bikes are...after all, 11 and 14 years old.

Any heads-up on who has the best price on these Cover Sets?

Yes, you have to remove the petcock.

People are more passionately opposed to wearing fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than bikers.

-Remove the fuel tank - yes.

-To replace the diaphragm only, no need to remove the petcock or drain fuel.
Just roll the tank forward onto its front end (on a towel), and you can work on it just fine.

-To change the fuel strainer, remove the petcock from the tank, still no need to totally drain the fuel.

Note, draining the fuel primarily makes the removal and reinstallation of the tank much easier.

Hope this helps :)
