Hey guys need some help from some of you who may have modified the baffles on the cobra pipes. I took the baffels out over the weekend and the VAL sounded sweet at idle and on some quick snaps of the throttle. Well running down the road it don't sound so good so I'm considering trying to shorten the baffles to get something  in between no baffels and stock,so have any of you shortened your baffels and if so how much did you shorten to find a nice sweet spot?

What kind of baffles do you currently have??

Mine are only about 4 inches long.  I actually welded a washer to the front to make the exit smaller and am still tempted to wrap them to quiet it down a LITTLE bit more.  If they weren't so expensive (especially having to buy 6 of them) I'd get a set of the long "quiet" baffles from cobra.

My understanding is that the Cobras came with 2 types of baffles (I may be wrong here).

If the baffles you have are longer than about 4 inches, then you should easily be able to drill them out or shorten them without problems.

Or maybe a trade can be worked out??   ;)

ChrisJ357 had a pic of his Cobras cause he had to replace one that got damaged.  Iirc, the new one had a different baffle than his others did.  He had a pic posted but must have taken it down.  Five baffles had a handle? across them and the new one didn't.

People are more passionately opposed to wearing fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than bikers.

The baffles inside the pipes are maybe 8" long from end to end.

What I'm wanting to do is make it louder than stock but not as loud as it was with them out completely. Something in between with a somewhat deeper throaty sound over stock.

Hey James,

I have the same pipes as you do and I wanted to accomplish the same thing.... So like you I took all 6 baffles out. Well it was loud...which I like! But I lost too much back pressure. So what I did was I cut all the baffles in half and put them back in. This gave me my back pressure back and it gave me the louder sound I was looking for. It would actually want it louder but it's fine for now. I'm actually considering cutting them a little bit shorter. But start off by cutting them in half and see if you like it. I think you will.
Hope this helps you....let me know if you want to talk about it more.

Armando,

Thanks for the info, I do have a question. When you cut the baffles in half did you weld the fitted end back on or not?

BigBishop

No... Just screw the other half back in.

I will give it a try next weekend it's too late now to experiment I'm headed out to a bike rally. I'll just take em out at rally if some hardly rider starts cracking his pipes
