Pingel installation

on a California standard. Also using Red Eye petcock vacuum line. I know to connect to #6 carb, however the vent line goes to places I can't see. Do I install a "tee" into this line, or what?

I am guessing you bought a vacuum operated Pingel.  You had to disconnect the vacuum line from the stock petcock to remove the tank so all you have to do is connect that to the Pingel.

ETA:  I missed where you said you were replacing the vacuum line also.  This is really easy.  If you still have the tank off, slide the new vacuum line on the #6 cylinder nipple and push the line into the area behind the airbox.  Reach in from the top and pull it up.  The last cylinder on the left is #6.  If you still have the old line in place, remove it from the nipple and tape it to the new line, pull the old line out from the top and it will pull the new line with it.  If the tank is on, you can do variations of the above methods, you'll just have to reach in behind the engine hanger to grab the line.  A pair of long handle needle nose pliers will help.

There are several styles of Pingles in both manual and vacuum configurations.. As X-Ring stated it appears you bought a vacuum model.. The #6 vacuum line would just attach to the Pingle vacuum fitting.. The tank vent line is easily stretched when the tank is removed and then will kink when reinstalled.. Just make sure that line is open after the tank is reinstalled.. There should be a 'T' in the vent line which leaves one tap open to act as a vacuum break..

Busser, I have a '98 Tourer (California Model) and found out a couple of months ago that the vacuum line from the #6 carb on Calif. Models goes to a 3-way splitter that's underneath the airbox and sits above the engine.  I wanted to replace this vent line and discovered that unlike the other 49-state models where the vacuum line goes from #6 carb to petcock, the Calif. Model isn't that simple......I had to remove the airbox to get to the 3-way splitter.  At least I don't have to fear R & R the airbox anymore, now that I did it for the first time.

Thanks to all! Finally putting parts back on during my conversion to "Lady in Black". Most of the bike will be satin black, with ghost flames on tank and hard bags. Will post pics when done. June? Hope.
