utopia back rest

ok ! here is the problem. i just bought the Utopia back rest and installed it to my tourer . it has scoooted my ass forward and now i feel like a giant riding a piss ant ! is there a simple mod i can do to it to get my leg room to increase. NOTE: im 6'4" so back support is a must and so is the leg room.

Look at the support of the back rest itself. There is a bolt and nut adjuster back there. It's in the vertical upright. The back rest pivots and under that is your adjuster. Hope this helps. RIDE SAFE.

Have you set the adjustment to move it toward the rear?  I am also 6" 4.  Best backrest for us!

Personally, I would contact Utopia - someone recently had an issue with it working with an aftermarket seat, and they modified it to work, and that person said they are great to work with. When I got mine, I had a few questions, and they answered them, and made me feel like family.

If that doesn't work, I can look at mine, and see if I can figure out a way to mod it, to work. I have a pretty extensive shop, and can do just about anything (except powder coat - mama won't let me use her oven!!   ). Let me know. I will be putting my rear seat on today, and I'll look at it then.

do you ride with the passenger seat, or without? That would/could make a difference on how to mod it, if it still has to fit the passenger seat. Some ride solo, some ride two up, most are a combination.

EDIT: I am assuming that you have made all obvious adjustments, and need the entire backrest moved back. Mine is just right, distance-wise from the handlebars at almost full rearward adjustment, and I am 6', 230 lbs. I can imagine wanting it back further

Side note, not to hijack, but I'm going to pick up my Ultimate set tonight, so will have a "spare" Utopia to play with...

yes ive made "all" adjustments i could have. and its 2 up setup.stock seat setup. i will try to get some pics posted. not sure how to do that yet???

Can the two round-head socket screws be disconnected, then the vertical bar of the pad be moved behind the vertical bar of the mounting bracket, then refasten the round-head socket screws?  If so, that should move the pad back 1/2".

Yeah, you can - I just did. I also just adjusted my Ultimate, back about 1/2", and that 1/2" made a LOT of difference. I would start there. You MIGHT be able to use a 1/4" spacer between them (with longer bolts), also, and move it back a total of 3/4", and that might just be enough. I'd try that first...

hey, it couldbe worse. you could be as tall as oss and have to sit on the back seat to ride.

has any body done a seat bracket mod on this Utopia ???

You can also take out the two screws that hold the backrest to the mounting bracket and re-position the backrest an inch or more higher on the bracket. That will position the backrest higher on your back and allow you to lean farther back. I did that on mine and in addition to allowing me to lean farther back, I find it more supportive and more comfortable. Good luck.

I have a similar problem with my ultimate backrest. They sell an optioonal bracket that is supposed to move it back some but did not move it enough for me. I ended up bending my bracket in a vise and it is better, but not perfect.
