Just saw that the WI legislature passed a concealed carry law, and it is headed to Gov. Walkers desk, where he plans to sign it.

Oh, wait a minute.  Saw it on FOX News, so it must be a lie!

The law says the AG can set rules to allow reciprocity.  I understand the AG is friendly to carry, so hopefully soon!

yeah, but open carry is a great way to get mugged and have your gun taken away by criminals practicing concealed carry

I am ALL in favor of an Illinois bypass.  Indiana to Wisconsin, without going thru Illinois.  Either a bridge on the lake... or a elevated highway.  Emergency exits only, NO on ramps.

At one point they were talking about making WI a constitutional carry state, but amendments were added requiring training, permit, etc. The newspaper a couple of weeks ago mentioned a hunter's safety card as proof of training. I don't know it this will stand with the current bill.

What do the rest of you have to do for training?

No training requirements, no restrictions or extra costs in Indiana. Pass your police check, pay less than $150 (can't remember the exact cost) and get your lifetime permit. Open carry or concealed, our permit covers both.

And personally, I think the zero training is a good idea. I carry virtually anytime I'm not at work. But, I'm not yet someone who's likely to be targeted for crime. It's the single Mom, struggling to make ends meet, working at night who really needs to be able to protect herself. She is also the citizen least likely to be able to pay for training. Training requirements would work much like a "poll tax" for her and citizens like her, a way to keep them from exercising their rights. And, truthfully, virtually everyone I know here in Indiana grew up with firearms.

Freedom is sometimes a messy business, but freedom, by it's very nature is requires us to live in a world of few restrictions.

Yeah-keep it up jabba. I'm going to Illinois (nope ain't nuts) for sharing some wind time with my brother. Can't call it vacation cause i is retired. But startin to recollect why i left in 1978. Oh well he is my brother and thats where he hangs his hat. Course the fact his wife has a nice practice there might have something to do with it. Lawyer. RIDE SAFE.

I live in southern IL and cannot blame you one bit. The only reason I continue to base my college education in Illinois is because it has great state funding for military vets pursuing an education. On top of the Montgomery G.I. Bill and Post 911 Bill. Illinois residence also obtain the Illinois Veterans Grant. It is one of the few states that offer separate state funding from federal funding for education. (I believe Texas does this also). 4 years of college free from Illinois, and 4 years free from the government. Sometimes I wish my future career could be a professional student  . If it wasn't for my educational benefits, Id be long gone from my cornfield roots.

Felt the same way about DC, 18 years employment there and I probably spent no more than few dollars a year.  Brown bagged every lunch.

What do the rest of you have to do for training?

Background check, take classroom instruction for 10 (?) hrs, and score 70%+ on firing range test. Renew every 5 years with a 5 hr class and firing range test.  If you can't shoot 70%, you don't need to be carrying a pistol anyway.  The firing range test score is never put into your record, only pass or fail, to avoid any written records for lawyers coming back after a firearm discharge incident to attempt to corner you.  I passed,,,, and that's all I've got to say 'bout that

Colorado required training certificate for my permit in Jefferson County.  Took the 18 hour NRA course with practical and got the certificate.

Idaho required nothing other than a fee and background check...took 30 days to get initial permit.

Won't be seeing any in my current state of NJ in my lifetime...too many anti-gun liberal types to ever get CCW unless you're connected to a judge or other politico.

What Frye said for our Indiana LTCH. I think I paid only $100 for my lifetime. I got a discount  .

For my Utah non resident I had to sit through a 4 hour class (I believe) of Utah laws, finger printed, and have a picture taken. Its good for 5 yrs. The permit is like a drivers lisc. ALOT better looking then my Indiana one.

In Florida I used my Wisconsin Hunter's safety Certificate from when I was 12. As proof of training.

When I got my PA concealed carry permit, I asked are there any rules or anything I should know.  The sheriff's deputy looked me straight in the eye and said, "don't do nuthin stupid".  And so completed my training.

Think that I'd Qualify for a permit in Wisconsin? My dad will be thrilled. And I know I qualify for CC anyway under LEOSA.

Might wanna look that up. There are only 3 Const Carry States, VT, AK, AZ. I'd have to go back and look but to be a Constitutional carry State you can open and CC without a permit. The way the 2A reads and was mean to be. Most, if not all, except the obvious States  , you can open carry, with or without a permit. I can open carry in Ohio but not CC cause Ohio does not like my Ind LTCH.

Unless you mean by KS Constitution. Then thats 2 different things.
