Noise in front of engine

My friend just bought a 1997 trike about 40,000 miles on it. He previously had a VTX. He is complaining of a whirrring noise in the front of his motor. i let him listen to mine when I revved it up and he said sounded kind of the same but he is not comfortable with the sound. I rode the bike before he bought it last fall and did not notice anything out of the normal, but that does not mean he does not have a new noise.
Are there some bearings in the front that can make that kind of a noise, I always thought it was just the belt. Tensioners go bad or something??

It is probably the timing belt tensioners on the front of the engine. If those belts have ever been overtightened, it will wear those bearings out quickly. I replaced both of mine last year along with both belts.

Take the front cover off of the motor and crank it up and listen to see if the noise can be isolated. Good Luck!
