Clearview Windshield review

I've got a Y2K tourer that, up till 2 hours ago had the stock windshield on it. After bout 5 years, it began to de-laminate and yearly got worse and worse. 3 weeks ago I ordered a 17 inch tall Clearview and today I received it. Packed and shipped perfectly with lots of padding. It took about 30 minutes to remove my spotlights, take off the old shield, clean the gaskets and re-install everything. The Clearview is optically very good and looks great. Being shorter ( I removed 2 inches off the old shield- this one is 2 inches shorter yet) it looks very sporty. Solo, I now look over the shield, rather than through it and there appears to be no more turbulence for the driver than before. Wifey and I are doing a 900km ride tomorrow, so I'll post her thoughts as a passenger. For me it was worth the $200 and I would recommend it at this point. I'll keep you guys posted.

I have the same set up with smoke tint, sans vent. Have had it for five or six years now. Being able to see over the top makes a big difference. Doesn't scratch as easy as OEM, either. Good stuff. Yrmv,

I like mine, have had one on a interstate and now on my tour, great shield.

I have one with the vent and can not tell any difference with the vent opened or closed.  I wish I had not ordered it with the vent.

The vent works fine, equalizes the pressure and stops any buffeting, moves air, you just can't feel it in normal riding position, hold one hand close to it at speed, you will feel the intake of air when it is open. It does let a bug thru once in a while, though.  Hoser

My OEM windshield on the VTX cracked and I replaced it with a Clearview shield and loved it.  It seemed to be thicker, wore well (took a licken and kept on ticken).   I'm sure you will be happy, and I hope the wife likes it as well....

  As above, i have a Clearview and had been very careful washing to avoid scratches, using only soap and water and wiping off bugs with my hand.  When lots of bugs a water soaked towel on it for a while to soften those little buggers.

  Have switched to Plexus wih microfiber towel.  The stuff is great and is much easier getting of the bugs, etc after it is used.  I am sure there are a number of you out there using this product.  1+

I'd be REAL interested in the results of your 2 up trip.  I also have a Clearview but its factory height (21").  I look thru and not over.  Was not really a problem until I got caught in a long rain ride.  Couldn't see #$%^ !

Didn't really want to cut mine down.  May want to buy a new 17" (clear) and sell my 21" (tinted).

Looking forward to what both you AND your wife experience with the 17" height.

As I've posted before; I love my Clearview AND they're a great company to deal with. I've had mine for 4 or 5 years (I think) and there are ZERO scratches! I ordered it 2" higher and wider WITH the Vent. The vent is GREAT on a hot day or out on the highway. . . You're going to get some folks posting (if this thread continues) who will talk about the difference in the material between an OEM and an aftermarket, but ignore it.  The Clearview exceeds any and all safety standards. I've taken a bird 'hit' twice doing 55+ MPH and a few stone 'thunks.' So far the shield has been bulletproof. Of course one of the advantages is; you can buff it out should any starches occur.  You should be happy with your purchase my friend!

 OK. Just back from our ride, but it was shortened due to a front tire that kept going flat and all the bike shops are closed due to the long weekend. As far as the review goes- for me, at highway speeds there is a big improvement with air circulation and seeming a bit less turbulence. The spousal unit claims very little change for her- possibly a little more air movement as well. This shield was thought out and designed very well. I would definitely recommend this size to anyone between 5 foot 8 inches and 6 foot tall. All things considered, I would do it again. Now as far as the tire goes, I looked for a nail or screw and found none. I suspect the valve stem is leaking. Does anyone know if they're easy to change out?? Thanks

I am 5'9" and have a 17 inch, since I got a lower seat, I wish I had a 16'.  As for the Valve stem, if you jack up the front and break the bead with a large C clamp and a couple blocks of wood it can be done.  Also would suggest a patch boy solid steel valve stem. Hoser

Willow says "No one should be riding on OEM valve stems." I still am on one of my Valks. I'll change them with the next tires.
