Securing stuff to the bike for travel.

I commute 30 miles round trip to work as much as possible with the Valk. I've been using bungee cords to hold my backpack/cooler to the sissybar, but the hooks are playing hell on the chrome. I either need a different style bag( harley makes a backpack that attaches to the sissy bar) or a different way of securing it. I usually haul 4 32oz bottles of gatorade, a police style clipboard, socks pants and shirt, & a few misc. must haves( multitool, snacks, bandana, gloves, etc) This needs to be easily removable, as I take the bag and carry it with me in my garbage truck.

Try most of the bike accessory sites for sissybar bags. There are a lot of styles to be had-I'm sure one will work for you.
I would not use bungees to hold anything I intended to keep. They fail very often.
The local Honda dealer (Harley too) saves the straps used to attach new bikes to the pallet for shipping. I have several from each (5 bucks at the harley store, free from my friendly Honda guy). They are strong and easy to use. You can tie/strap a lot of stuff with them from bikes on trailers to stuff on bikes. Always have a couple on the bike and 3 or 4 in the truck.

Are you using metal hooks on the bungies? Try and get the plastic ones or dip yours in rubber. Could use nylon webbing to make 'loops' to attach the bungies to. Been using bungies for years with no problems, failing or chrome problems. I carry a cooler size bag to work every 3 days and just use 1 bungie. Never a fail. I do use a ratchet strap on big heavy luggage to keep it from moving.

+1 on the plastic hook bungies. I have a bunch that have stood the test of time.

T-Bags (terrible name, I know) makes some really nice sissy-bar baggage.

Have been using the plastic hook ones, but they're getting a bit worn. Walkure, I'll take a look when I'm down for the BBQ. Shoot me a pm with what you'd need for it just in case....

YP, I was given a real nice Harley travel bag that would easily hold all you described & more. Problem was it was so large & did not have a solid bottom so it drooped down almost covering the tail lamp. So using some scrap aluminum diamond plate & about $5 worth of stainless hardware I fabbed this plate up.

Attaches/detaches with no tools & fits in the saddlebag if you don't want to leave it on.



The plate would work with any style bag you choose & still leaves plenty of places to attach bungees. I don't use bungees for the Harley bag as the bag's straps all work great on the Valk with the Ultimate backrest.  
Even makes a great pizza carrier!  

Something like this would be pretty easy to fab up & won't cost much either.

They make those spider web bungee strap thingies too.  I have one and use it when I can't stand to look at my ratty old leatherlykes uglying up my beautiful blue/pearl standard.  I just took them off yet again today, and am going to try a backpack with the spider web thing for a while.

I REALLY need decent hard bags for the standard.

+1.  I have the 18"-54" (??) adjustable ones.  Easy to secure and then just pull tight.  Each side is a loop so no metal to scratch paint and/or chrome.   Don't have to worry about the bungee snapping back at you.  I've used them to secure my laptop for work and duffel bag when I went to Americade.
