Texas VRCC (and anyone else who wants to come), our North Texas Ride for Kids to help kids with brain tumors is just around the corner and I want to make sure everyone is invited.  You don't want to miss this chance to help save kids with cancer.

I had dinner Tuesday night with one of the sweetest 7 year olds in the world and despite her chemo and constant fight with her brain tumors, she has learned to sing and is learning to play the guitar.  She'll be at our Ride for Kids as long as she is healthy enough and she wants to ride a 2 wheeler instead of a sidecar this year because she "is big now".  We'll see how that works.

We have been the top club at this ride several times and the families in the area really appreciate your support for their kids.  For those who haven't been to one of these rides, I'll just tell you it's unique in the world of charity rides/runs.  Some of the local patients who you are helping by participating get to go on the ride with us and we all get to have lunch with them after the ride.  I've participated in this ride for several years now and of all the people I know who have gone and stayed for the lunch program with the kids after the ride, I think I've only met two who didn't want to come back and help those kids again.  Like anything, it's not perfect, but you'll feel great about what you did when you leave.

Here's a link to the VRCC team fundraising site.  http://www.firstgiving.com/process/teamarea/default.asp?did=1335&teamid=152953  If you can make it to the ride, just click on the Join Now button and in 5 minutes, you'll have your own site to easily ask folks to donate to help these kids. The next step is emailing everyone you know and asking them to donate, because you can't collect any donations if you dont' ask.  I have to ask them to donate to help the kids because donating to help me is pretty much out of the question.  ;)  And, for every $300 in donations you turn in, whether through the site or at the ride in cash or checks, you get a chance to wint a new motorcycle, a tire, a helmet, etc.

If you can't make it to the ride, please donate $5 or $50 to one of the team members who will be there.  The need is great and I bet all of us who are gainfully employed can spare at least $5.

Here's the link to the latest video out about the ride, which you can put on your fundraising site so potential donors can see what it's all about.

Yahoo!  I found out that I may have access to some matching funds for donations raised by VRCC through the FirstGiving team.  Still working on it. Anyone who is interested, let me know so I'll know whether to continue to work that possibility.
