Hello:

I have the speaker panels and windshield off of my 2000 Interstate, because I have done the headlight bulbs upgrade, and I was thinking of replacing the dim stock instrument (speedo and tach) lights with higher wattage ones. I've looked at some old posts that reference Wagner #193 bulbs as a replacement.

Can anyone provide feedback on how to go about replacing the bulbs on an Interstate? It looks likes the old posts discussed replacing them on other Valk models, and not the Interstate.

Additionally, if anyone has suggestions on the bulb numbers and wattages for any other bulbs in the instrument area, please reply.

Thanks in advance.

Don't know if you will find the information you are looking for here, but try Rattlebars.com and wander through Chet's site.

He has a lot of how to documents there...

I never take the fairing off. I pull the dash board out. Seems much easier to me.

And from my generic parts page...

Wagner Lighting p/n 193

bulb 4.6w,14v,15,000hr

perfect illumination & LONG LIFE....for about .60cents ea;

couple of ph #s....Federal-Mogul/Wagner Lighting....800-537-8984;

Parts Plus (one distributor) 800-727-8112  (other manufacturers' hour life rating can be less/half....7500hrs) #193 is the industry lookup standard

I'm confused as the referenced page says the #193 is for non-Interstate and the #74 is for the Interstate. There are options available for the #193 but the OP wants to upgrade his #74's for a brighter dash.

Yeah, what Jeff K said. I have never removed my fairing to replace any bulbs. Pull the dash for the cluster bulbs and have used the #193s and for the headlamps I use the 9003CBs. Bend the lower tabs back and pop them in. Tight fit for the hand but do-able. The only time I removed the fairing was to do the stem bearings.
On your tombstone there is a dash between the day you were born and the day you die. Make that dash count.

Hi Everyone:

I bought the Wagner #193 bulbs, then disassembled the "meter assembly" from the fairing, then pulled the stock bulbs out. They're Toshiba A12V-1.7W bulbs, and are smaller than the #193's that I bought. I took the Wagners back.

I was looking in the Old Archives for any info and found the post with the title "Bulbs for Meters" and this link http://www.valkyrienorway.com/partsbulb.html

Does anybody have any experience with the bulbs that are discussed at this website? Are they for an Interstate too?

Thanks,
Marty

I simply took a burnt out bulb to my local parts dealer and had them match the base to what they had in stock.  I took the highest wattage bulb (12v) of the offering and installed it. Was a bit brighter which I like. The bulb height was a little different but I didn't give that much value. Just got the ones that matched the best.  Like, all the other Valkyrie parts bs I figured Honda was the only source for the actually correct bulb and I was not going to subscribe to that at all, if I could help it. Already replace the two headlight bulbs a couple years back and learned my lesson them.

Ricky:

Do you have the brand and part number for that bulb? It would be a big help.

Thanks,
Marty

Sorry, no. I went out and looked (I usually save everything) but I probably only bought four and I did find the 4 old oem bulbs.
