Last Friday I got my hands on a 97 Standard built in June of 1996.
It is in rough shape, but I'd rather save an orphan than to wreck a nice stocker.

The Orphan

The Inspiration

My bobber will have no chrome but have brushed aluminum and brushed chrome/nickel plateing.
It will have a 2000-03 rider seat, VTX headlight, short Airflow stacks without glasspacks, and be painted Satin Black. Sort of the type of a Valk that EXCILE CYCLES might build.

Feel free to comment and even complain. And yes donations will be gladly accepted.
Peace to all

Those 4 inch stack extensions are not in good shape. But I am going to make a straight through ehaust system using SS bell reducers. the pipes are also quite rusted, so after all the cutting/welding/grinding is done, everything will sandblasted then be black ceramic coated.

Thanx for your offer and interest.

Howabout a seat that flows to the edges of the rear fender and around the tail light so you can't see any fender at all?

My fall project is to build a shed for the wife's car...and it isn't going well. I apparently build sheds the same way my students write. It lacks structure but has some hidden promise. I'd rather be working on my truck or finally customizing  Valk...a second Valk because I don't want to mess with mine.

Party on.

You are right about that front fender. However someone at sometime thought it was a good idea.
Are you suggesting that you might donate a gas tank? I really am flaberdasted by the help and suggestions by the VRCC members that are so enthusiastic about a motorcycle that was made for only seven years and is no longer supported by Honda.

We need to preserve as many stock bikes and save those orphans and wrecks so that we can continue to grow this cliub. Sure some aftermarket vendors don't make accsesories, but we also have people in this club that have made and are still produceing parts and other accessories. Lets support those VRCC members.

Peace

My "ugly duckling" orphaned Valk is already starting to transform. Maybe I'm just stubborn!

Russell Mitchel,...you may have to keep an eye out for an disabled Valk rider. Grin

Completed a Radiator Cover/Grille . I don't want to be like everyone else, and I've got time on my hands and always keep materials from other products (Show Chrome Grille) around if I think I can use it. I never throw away any aluminum scraps.

The Radiator Cover is drilled to emulate what the old timers used to do to reduce weight. I have plans to drill lightning holes in quite a few parts.

That Red and White Valk bobber used to be my screensaver at work.
It is a clean and simple custom that does not comprimise the practicality of the bike.

Mine will be a bit more radical, but that is because it was missing a lot of parts and I am on a fixed income so I must make/modify some of my own parts. I am also painting it myself (Satin Black) and a lot of black powdercoat (found a very reasonably priced vendor). I will update as progress continues.

That looks great!  I want to rid my bike of chrome as well but long process without loads of money... which I am little short of at the time.

I have started a winter project as well.  but not as in dept as yours.
Here is my project so far...

Seems that we're thinking along the same lines.
Dropped off my wheels yesterday for some satin black powdercoat.

It seems we have the same PS 11 1/2 shocks and handlebars (the bars will also be powdercoated).

I'm going to do a "choke lever system" similar to John Schmidts.

Progress reports as soon as the bike is on my new HF lift table.

My rear shocks are old and I'm replacing them with some custom all black ones.  They gentleman that made the triple trees offered to build them for us for cheaper than the progressives, so it sounded like a good idea.

I'm struggling now with indecision about whether to go all black brake and throttle lines (the stealth Barnett's) or to go with stainless steel ones...  tough decision.  We (my dad and I) brushed the forks and even the chrome on top of the gas tank and cleared it-which turned out great I think.

I would love to replace the tank, but have not had much luck in finding anything that would fit and still be big enough to get our fat lady at least 100 mile range on a single tank of gas...

Oh I wish I had the welding skills and vision to do things like that...

I would so buy a cheap ratted Valk and do a Cafe' / Scrambler type thing with it...

It'd be awesome... a style known for small, but mine would have the Flat 6 in it...  cooldude

I'm jealous of all you guys who are capable of such coolness...  Embarrassed

Momz,
What a great project, that same red and white bobber that is your inspiration, well it was mine too. When I I had 2 Valks, I wanted to do something like that. Have fun and we will keep an eye out as you progress to the end.

Years ago after getting my Valk I read on the forums that someone referred to the Valk as the 1957 Chevy of motorcycles, as our bikes age it is becoming a reality.

It just goes to show that there is no limit to the customizing that can be done to them, and there is no such thing as a bad Valkyrie!

That is a great looking bike!!

Me likey a lot, but not so sure how comfy that seat is?  Is it comfy, seems a bit lacking in cushion for the tush.  supercharge it and not many besides the crotch rocket 900cc on up crowd will want to even consider racing.

Well done!!   I wonder if anyone has ever used Herculiner and did all the metal parts in black vs. just the flat black paint.  I used up 3 gallons of herculiner when it was on sale about 50 bucks per gallon for the wood floor of my new 7x23' enclosed trailer and found it worked well, but took longer than expected to dry/cure since was late October and temps were hovering around the 50 degree mark taking longer to cure vs. should be used in higher temps to dry/cure quicker.  The first coat really soaked in but 2nd coat went on nice, much faster, even with applying a whole gallon of white primer on the wood floor first which glad I did that first at 20 bucks per gallon vs. using up another 1 gallon of herculiner that would just soak into the wood floor first.
