any suggestions for mounting an OEM windshield??

i have my OEM windscreen for my 98 tourer with all the hardward that attaches to it.  I do NOT have any of the hardware that attaches to the bike.  Any suggestions?
Does anyone have any parts for sale?

You can buy them new from Honda, such as Honda Line Parts, HDLparts.com, but you sure won't like the cost that's around $150 for the three brackets.

I ordered the KewlMetal mounts a few years back, it was about $150 then. I liked that they were chrome and not the dull metal of the Honda clamps, plus the second hand mounts I got were missing some pieces anyway, and I had taken off a VERY badly peeling and pitted Cobra light bar, so my turn signals didn't have the clamp mounts either.

And of course, like most of my projects, the funding changed midstream, so I didn't get to swap out to LED signals, so I just attached the factory signals with the mounting extensions.

Dodis, is the "x" in the photo below a special adapter? I don't see how the stock turn signals could be used with the Kewlmetal windshield brackets, at least with the bracket meant for the lower mounting bolts. The Kewlmetal lower bracket is wider than the stock ones that they replace. The extra width won't allow stock turn signals to be attached at their factory position on the forks since the wider flange sits right at the very spot that the stock turn signals clamp onto the fork tubes.



The stock turn signal would have to be moved above the wider kewlmetal flange. However, if you move the turn signal up the forks, above the wider flange, than the turn signal won't clear the cutout in the OEM windshield in their higher position. I guess you could grind off the top of the wider flange.


[The STOCK lower windshield brackets are thinner actually rods to accommodate the turn signals' fitment into its notch in the OEM windshield. All in all though the bottom stock windshield bracket isn't too bad looking. It's the TOP mounting brackets that have a sheet metal finish to them.]

Yes, the "X" is KewlMetal's signal standoff for the turnsignals. Though if you have a short section of tubing you could polish up, you could do the same thing. If you are keeping the stock signals like I did, a tube might be better since you could get something to better match the diameter of the signal mount instead of tapered like the KM standoff, even flatten it a bit to match the oval shape.

If you want to run the large bullets on the bottom with a hondaline windshield, you will need the signal standoff kit, item #210.

Can't really see the standoff in this pic, but you can see that the upper hole in the lower bracket aligns just right with the cutout on the shield.

And for futher details, when the PO had mounted the cobra lightbar, the screws going into the plastic mount of the signals was pretty well stripped, so I used the KM standoffs, and then a hanger bolt from Home Depot (machine thread & nut on one end, wood thread on the other, into the plastic on the signal). Had the money remained available I would have gone aftermarket signals with hollow bolts to hide the wires too.

If you want, I can try to get some better pics with the shield off.

no need for more pics, but thanks the same. I understand that the Kewl brackets have two holes on the right and left bolt flanges. The lower is for the windshield on that side of the bike. The hole directly above is for the turn signals (with adapters).

Not trying to hijack, but am picking up an oem windshield next sat. The lower bracket (#2) obviously replaces the turn signal support bar. Where do #3, and 4 attach. Also is this something thats easy to install on a Std. On the side of the road somewhere????

Pics are from my photo files which I annotated. *I forget already, but if the bottom bracket uses the same headlight bolts, it's worth double-checking and re-checking those bottom nuts and bolts so your headlight don't fall off.
