Like it says in the article:  "The shift shows how deeply the recession is cutting."  State revenues are way down due to the recession.  How is a state supposed to pay for unemployment, food stamps and other benefits for folks who have lost their jobs.  Or would you just ignore the folks that are down on their luck?

He turned down some of the fed money because he didn't think his state could take the burden of having to pay it back. He is also not convinced that the state economy (or national economy) will be righted in 24 months when the first of those loans come due ot the feds. He is pushing within his state to shift the money around and keep the state a float another way...

But you know, like a lot of things in politics, there is no right answer. Every answer has its draw backs.

Oh, that's right, take from me to give to someone else. That's the American way. That's the problem, we have come to expect the govt to take care of all our ills. Pure BS. Yes siree, more big govt is what we need to lead us down the road to dependancy then total control.

I kinda want to write a reply but, I don't want to get into a writing match with Mr. Eagle again....

America was based on freedom and independence.  When you become reliant on the government, you become a slave to the regulations that they dictate for you to receive a free lunch. 

If we teach our children to search out freebees, then we are only raising little leaches.
