...after 7 years of mostly great service, my Dell crashed and burned....never did create a "back up"...but was lucky enough to be able to save my massive picture archive, as well as my "Favorites".....looking for a new puter and was wondering if anyone knows of a site that has some good deals....leaning towards another Dell...

Dell Outlet Store? I got my Studio XPS through such an avenue. They have refurb, new or scratch-&-dent. But it's what's inside that matters. eBay sellers of Dell refurbs usually have the same price or more, but they get them from the same place.

However, the 'BEST' deal on a computer will be at a Sam's Club (If you have those up there in the Northland!) You can get a whole new system, w/flat screen and the all the buttons & bells, for around $400.

I would highly recommend a Toshiba.  Don't know if you want portability or not, and my R830 is just excellent in every respect.

I concur, Costco has a very limited selection, but if they have one you like you will be hard pressed to get a better deal anywhere, and a usually a two-year no-hassle return (replace) warranty (on ALL electonics... get a backup unit too).

just went to worst-buy to get a new home computer system, didn't get one, long story.....  but i do back up all my important pictures and documents every six months.  i bought an external 250GB hardrive that i dump into.  started doing that 'cause i had my old PC crash and paid a guy $600 to get an old video of my parents last visit before my father died.  could have saved $600 had i made it a practice to back up before!!  remember even jesus saves!!

I like thinkpads, because I like to use the trackpointer instead of the little pad...

MAC laptops have awesome build quality, but I like winders for my home OS,
most stuff works with winders, I don't want to work on my home computer, just
turn it on and use it...

My current workstation at work is a DELL optiplex 990, Centos 6.0 went right on
with no trouble and it really screams on compiling big projects, I bet it was cheap
too (it looks cheap  )...
