Well I started playing with the 83 goldwing bags today.Looks good I think.

I think it will work.

Nice tight fit.

Snug to fender.
I will be looking for a license plate holder.
I will be installing amber lenses in bags and loosing all of the reflectors/badges and trim.
And then have the fairing and bags painted to match bike.
More pics to come.

I look forward to seeing them after painted to match....I'm thinking its going to look pretty good  cooldude   Love that color  Smiley

Just a thought you should think about making a heat shield between the exhaust and saddlebags.

If this turns out to be reasonably easy you may be starting something here!! coolsmiley jarid for what it's worth i'm athinkin yer on the right track. Wink Suggestion-lower reflector at rear of bag-at minimum turn it into a marker light. Suggestion #2 the lower oval light in bottom rear of bag-marker and brake light. Just a suggestion. cooldude Sides more light at night is a GOOD thing. Cool RIDE SAFE.

When I did my bags, I mounted them 1" clear of the stock exhaust without any shield and haven't had any heat problems.  The only thing is that my exhaust outlets under the rear of the bags and there is some soot/pitting of the paint right there.  But under the bags along the exhaust pipes, no damage.  And even after long rides, the items in the bags don't seem to be getting hot.  But then again, my bags are fiberglass rather than ABS plastic like most OEM bags.  So that might be why.  ABS bags might need a heat shield.

This is one of those times when I slap myself on the forehead and say "now why didn't I think of that?"  I like it, especially where they kinda curve around and hug the fender in back. Keep us posted and I agree with Joe on the heat shields. With the ABS plastic I think you'll need them, BobE's are homemade fiberglass and probably give better heat protection. I'll be curious as to your method of mounting them.  cooldude

I prob wouldnt mount them to close to the fender to help avoid them rubbing together.

My bags still get warm even with the heat shields. Melts the ice in my drinks!  crazy2

Most definitely.  Even with the heat shields on my IS the stuff in the bottom of my side bags does get warm in the summer.

The heat shield idea......anything specific?  Would some heat shield type of tape work?  Something like this maybe?...........
