Escutchen plate

Is there a difference between the standard chrome plate around the fuel filler cap and the plate on the interstate tank?  My old plate from the standard doesn't sit flush on the interstate tank like it did on the standard tank.

When I switched from my '97 Standard tank, to an '01 IS tank, I used the original (Standard) cap on the IS tank, and I saw no difference in fit...

Maybe check to see if there is something keeping the plate from seating fully.
