Seat pans

I'm trying to locate a seat pan to send to Russell Day Long, and I was wondering if the seat pans were the same on all Valkyries. I know that the Interstate seat is shorter but not sure about the pan itself. I've got an Ultimate Big Boy now but I would hate to send it to Russell. I was hoping to recover sum of those $$$$.

Dave, I too would be interested in at least 1. Please let me know if this is still an available option. Looking to improve beyond my Ultimate BB seat which is the best yet I've owned.

Had posted in the classifieds but they had new or good quality seats at a premium price, all I needed was the pan.

Don't make the same mistake I made when I had my Russell made. My stock 2002 seat was in perfect condition, so like you I wanted a good seat pan to build the Russell. Hoser gave me his original 1998 seat, I removed the vinyl and foam, cleaned the bare pan and headed to Russell for my ride in appointment.

When I got to Russell I handed them the bare seat pan and then they explained they need the foam to build their seat. That had never been explained to me during any of our phone conversations nor was it explained on their website. I had no choice but to donate my pristine 2002 seat.

Thanks for the heads up Redline....I would have thought that I was helping by cleaning up the pan. That was a mistake that I WAS planning on making.

That is very interesting news. (That Russell Day Long uses old foam in the creation of the new seat)
They just lost my business if that is true.
Foam gets old & looses it's ability to bounce back and/or provide support. Much like the foam in an old sofa. Age takes it toll, even when not used much.
If I am expected to pay that much for a new seat, I want new foam.

My 2 cents.

I can only speak of how my seat was made, I have no idea of their current procedures. I had my seat made in the spring of 2010. They removed the original vinyl, cut out a cross section of the foam maybe 5 inches wide down to the pan, installed their steel spring/foam into the cut out area. They then shape and blended the wings into the original foam and recovered.

I think the Russell seats could be called a seat modification rather than a new seat.
