CT Poll

I'm choosing my next CT, I've narrowed it down to four choices. GoodYear TT, General Altimax, Bridgestone Potenza,  Falken Ziex ZE-512.
             The size will be the 205/60/16...
 I'm looking for any and all feedback on these four tire choices, good or bad. This poll is only for those who have run one of these three tires or are currently running one of these three tires. Do you like this tire? Would you recommend this tire?
         Please do not contribute regarding any other sizes.

Just went with the Altimax, but have only put about 25 miles on due to the weather.   Rides very nicely.    I'm sure you'd be happy with either choice.   Wish I had more experience with it but that's it.

I have an I/S with a CT but none of the above named tires.

Sorry,.. but using CT made then made sense as I rode my I/S two up and it truely was an improvement.
Now that my wife rides her own and I need a lighter handling bike due to certain medical/strength issues, I prefer a M/C tire.

I've had both the Goodyear and the Altimax and think the Altimax is a bit better, but there isn't a lot of difference between the two for me.

i did a lot of research before i made my decision of the altimax, still dont have it on .shes still in the hospital gettin new carbs, cant wait have tire and wheel in my house warm and cozy----------carl

Doug, first....Merry Christmas and a great New Year to you and Andrea. Ours was quiet, didn't go anywhere and only her son came over from Brandon for a short time. I like that a lot, not nearly as expensive.

Re. tires, I won't say I prefer the Bridgstone, it's just the only one I've experienced so far. I have about 15k on it and looks like it will go another 15k. It was suggested to me by a friend that had a Triple Tread on his first before switching to the Bridgestone. His biggest complaint with the TT was the shoulders were more square and caused it to make the bike want to "stand up" more. When he changed to the Bridgestone he noticed a huge improvement in handling, especially at slower speeds. He's a big man, about 6'4" and quite powerful. It bothered him running the TT, so I took his advice and tried the Bridgestone. So far, so good.

My first C/T was the TT and I loved it.  Got great mileage out of it.  I think I put 37k on it before replacing it prior to long road trip.  (Computer records are tied up in a crashed desktop computer right now).

However, I must say that since changing to the Altimax I love it even more.  I believe that I have over 10K on this tire and think it has more of the qualities of both (C/T and M/T) that I prefer (comfort, mileage, little softer sidewall, handling.

For what it is worth, my vote goes to the Altimax.

I've only used the GATT, on two bikes, and I like it fine, but I haven't used the others so I cannot say it's better than the others. (no vote)

FWIW, I have read a number of posts like Early Bird's that report the Altimax as handling more like a bike tire than any other car tire.  I doubt the Altimax will get the miles the GATT does, but if it goes at least 20K, then maybe it's academic.  My oldest GATT is over 30K and still looking good.

Me and my 99 I/S liking the ultimax in 205-60-16. Got over 10g on mine wet and dry and heavy this past summer ride to Chicago Il. Put 2000 miles on that trip and ZERO complaints. Twistys whatever regime i ride in-the C/T is the least of my concerns. RIDE SAFE.

Been running the Goodyear TT now for 2 seasons now with no complaints.  Put on about 10k a year.  Still looks like new. It is a bit squirrelly at crawl speeds, though nothing to worry about. Better than the bridgestone Potenza performance model (now discontinued) that I used to have.  Don't think I'll be needing to change it out any time soon.

mmmmm, I have neither one on my bike so I can't vote on those choices..I run a Federal 535 symetrical tread 205/55/16..have put just over 14K on it so far, there are times when I love it and times when I like it not so much..seems to be more a matter of mood, more than tire performance..I can certainly live just fine with the one I have , not sure what I'll run next and have plenty of time yet to decide.

 I have the GoodYear TT currently and honestly just not impressed with it. It's FLAT across the bottom, like a board. The rubber seams to be a harder compound. Maybe that's why I can't wear the darn thing out. I like the tread design and pattern of the General Altimax and have never heard anything bad on it. Then again I've never heard anyone comment negatively about the GoodYear TTT (except myself) and it was the most poular on the VRCC at the time I mounted it.
 John, Thanks and back at you I like your Bridgstone and it tracks well when I've ridden behind you, however that particular one is no longer available   Did you get my text? Watch the Florida board, I will be planning a ride soon for the New Year. Either a meet down the corridor near you, or central location for all to make, Dade City area? Floral City?

I'm on I think I'm on # 3, lost count.  GYTT that is.

We have about 11 or 12 bikes here in our area, all are running GYTT.

Have heard no complaints except for my son.   He bitched and hollered when I put the 1st one on.   He rides MGM a lot also.    Now he is trying to find a big old flat CT for his chopper.

Told him a CT would flop his chopper all over hell and back.    He still wants to try one.      Figure this spring, we will mount one on his chopper and I'd guess in less than 5K he will be going back to his big fat boy on there now.   Car tires and choppers don't agree with each other.

Way back in the 50's, I built a chopper from a Triumph 650.   Used a CT, and came close to killing myself, so I didn't figure CT and chopper mixed to good.

As long as I'm where I can get a CT mounted when I need it, I'll stick with the GYTT till it gets discontinued.   

PS:   My best air pressure for the GYTT is 35 to 36#.   Handles a lot better than in the 40's.   FWIW.

since i dont have any of them, i cant say wich one would work best on the bike. but i know which one i would never use. and that would be any goodyear product. have had many different models on as many different vehicles and hated the way they handled on every vehicle. terrible in snow on my 4 wheel drive truck and sloppy in the rain on my cars. gave some away barely used once i got a new set for the car.

After being contacted by another member and researching this tire he suggested that I consider, I am reseting the poll to zero and would like to add the Falken Ziex ZE-512 to the list. The reviews on this tire from searching here, make it look like exactly what I want. I am just not impressed with my GYTT
(except for milage)
I did not know this tire was a vailable in the size I want, 205/60/16.

My last was the Ziex 512, which has since changed so the tread is no longer quite symmetrical left to right.  My current is the Altimax HP.  The Altimax is laterally rounder than the Ziex, but that could be because I was comparing a worn out Ziex to a new Altimax.  My high-speed (85 MPH+) wobble was reduced with the Altimax, but that could be because I changed the upper shock bushings at the same time.

Thanks for adding the Falken. I really like the Falken Ziex ZE-512 205/65R-16. Corners well and great in the two days of rain on my trip East last summer. 13K miles and looks like new.

Boss Hoss has made the change over to motorcycle specific rear tires.

I'm not sure how old or how accurate your info is, Al.  When test-rode a Boss Hoss in 2006 it was running an Avon motorcycle tire on the back.   ???

I chatted a bit with the crew who had brought them up to South Dakota from Dyersburg.  They indicated some had been ridden and some hauled.  Now that would have been an interesting ride to make.
