That Sunbeam looks like it could have been the prototype for the Rocket 3 if it had another cylinder.

Jess, I like Cushmans also. I grew up riding a 1955 Cushman Road King and still have a 1959 Cushman Eagle that I restored several years ago. Painted it '57 Chevy Tropical Turquoise and never even put gas in the tank.

My first ride was a Cushman Eagle like the one in the 2nd pic. Bought it brand new in 1959 with paper route money when I was 14. The color was close to those BSA's that flank it in the pic.

I'd just about give my "left one" for that Beemer in the next to last pic.

I know that the year the picture was taken is around 57 or so, but don't know about
the year of the bike... anybody?

Here's Granddaddy's (Mama's Daddy) house... the C&O Railroad and the Greenbrier river are between
the house and the mountain in the background... This is West Virginia to me... can't wait to go back
this summer!

Why would you delete the pictures? You can get external storage cheap these days. Plug it up the the USB port and move them off you hard drive... AND Thanks for the pics. Some nice bikes there for sure.

I like the Cushman also but I wish it was stock.  I am also thinking of buying a Valkyrie but need some input on the bike.  Jim

There is a lot of risk buying a Valkyrie. STD, Tourer, Interstate, SuperValk (research that one).
One, you get this grin on your face that most will not understand.
Two, you will find yourself leaving early for work, not to have breakfast, but to take a few backroads.
Three, your insurance may go up because you got a ticket over the speed limit, not because you were speeding on purpose, but because she begging to go just a little faster.
Four, well.......... you will not regret getting one!

Is it that particular model, or are you just an old Beemer fan? Here is my old '77 R100/7

Btw Joe, excellent post! I love seeing those old bikes! Thanks!!! :cooldude:
The key thing is to wake up breathing! All the rest can be fixed. (Except Stupid - You can't fix that)

I have heard some say a 1500 GW is a heavier handling bike than it brother the 1800 GW, but is it that way with the Valkyrie?  Right now we ride a CB900C with fairing and tail box.  We just think if we decide to go a ways we need more luggage room.  How hard is it to fix this bike without a dealer?  Jim

Sounds like you are looking for an Interstate. Maybe one with a trailer hitch already installed.
Fixing the bike really depends on your skills or how close you are to people that host Wrench Sessions. I have seen a LOT of persons on this board travel 4-6 hours to visit and help others in need. The Valk is a bit nimbler than the GW, I have ridden both.  I put quite a bit of luggage on my ride out to Charlotte NC from Amarillo TX last summer. She was top heavy then, but I had a lot of err,,, stuff, to take with me.

Just about anyone can work on them:

I hear 1800 wings handle real good, but Valkyries don't "handle heavy":

Green Lantern:  I think any time you ride 2 up it is alittle top heavy.  That is why with the lower saddlebags you can put the weight lower to balance it out.  Jim

When I was a kid and had the aforementioned Cushman, there was a guy who sold BMWs out of his garage not far from our house. I think back then they were R69 & R69S models(600cc ?). I always lusted after a Beemer and finally in '91 I got a K75S. Not the same as a boxer, but it was my BMW. I rode it until I traded it for the Valk but I had always wanted either a R100S or a R100RT, preferably the RT. I really like that R100/7 of yours too.  :cooldude:

I probably had 30-35 lbs in each saddlebag too! Sure would not add that much to a 97's saddlebags that had not been reinforced.  The bottom will fall out of these before they break at the mounting bolts....

That is a good looking selection of old bikes. Many of those you wouldn't see everyday. Thanks for sharing.

My first road bike was a 350 like that one, only the exhaust was all chrome, not that black cover on it.  Had a Yamaha 125 Enduro before that.
