I fear my fan has gone out. I just got the one from pinwall in and need some ideas from anyone who has changed one out, on the best plan of attack... Any suggestions?

T-roy;

I'd suggest you download or purchase a service manual and follow the instructions on page 6-7.  You'll have to remove the radiator, which isn't all that difficult, but a manual will help alot.

I know mine has only come on once.....I didn't think it was workin until that day.  The 4th of July last year tryin to park.....took 15 of 20 mins of stop and go before I heard the fan.

Have you checked to make sure the fan is bad ? Jump/ground the coolant temp switch and see if the fan runs.. Basically you're feeding the fan motor directly to see if it'll run..  If it does chances are the temp switch is bad, but, Honda will apparently have some different fancy name for it..  If it doesn't run when directly feed then the fan is probably bad.. I don't think I can remember hearing about a fan going bad though..

;D ;D

Well, if you don't want to remove the radiator, you could pull the tank, airbox, carb bank, thermostat housing. But I think the radiator might be easier.

I figured you must have done this, if not, you should before taking everything apart.

Also  check the fan fuse...I know you probably did that but I'd thought I'd mention it anyways.

lots of input here but I agree you should ground out the fan switch (left side bottom of rad) and see if it runs.  if not check fuse.  the install is not too difficult.  cover the fender with a soft towel.  remove the drain screw on the water pump, open the rad cap and remove enough fluid so that the level is below the top rad hose in the rad.  remove the top rad hose.  remove the bolt holding the rad on top.  move the rad to the left and it will come off the pins at the bottom.  with a 1/4 drive and I believe an 8mm socket remove the fan. unhook the fan connector and  re-install remember the fan ground. top up the rad with fluid..  this might be a good time to change out your antifreeze if it hasn't been done in a while

Had my I/S for over 21000 miles and will be 2 years with me 30 june 2012. :coolsmiley: My point-since i have owned my Valkyrie the fan has come on 4 or 5 times-and always when the ambient air temp is over 100 defrees F and i've been idling for a bit(long red light). :D Other than that-no high temp light and no cooling fan. :cooldude: This is just F Y I. :cooldude: RIDE SAFE.
