I turned off my computer and then turned it on the next day.

Now I have a black bar where the tool bar should be.

Ran my spyware and turned it off and on again but still have the problem.

Can anyone help me?

Googling suggests this might be a result of installing IE 8.  Try googling "black toolbar" or something  and  you'll get lots of results and hopefully a fix.  I went Mac last year with no regrets..... so far.  Good luck.

Shut down, unplug power, remove battery, wait 3 minutes, install battery, plug in power, start.
If still not working, do a recovery.

Cut all the power.  When you turn it back on... press and hold down the spacebar until it boots up.  You'll be at a screen where it says to press "L" and enter.  It'll load the "L"ast good startup and maybe that will help.
It's booting it up in Safe Mode I believe.

If you want safe mode, just hold down power button 5 seconds, after it goes off hit power button, will give you a choice of normal start or safe mode start.
If all else fails backup all files you want to keep and do a full system recovery ((back to new out of box condition))

OK, now why would a Dell turn itself back on after a full shut down and power off?

I laid hands on it and yelled..."Devils be gone!" and low and behold the black bar disappeared. :cooldude:

Seriously, I was about to try the cure and the damn thing had pruged itself.

Go figure....

But I really appreciate everyone's help...you guys are the best!
