Jardine Exhaust

I am currently running Cobra's 6X6 on my 99 STD but have been considering a change.  I have found a set of Jardine slash-cut shorties - I think it is the Rumbler Exhaust System (headers with separate slip ons).

Was hoping to get some 1st hand knowledge from those who know.   :cooldude:

My Lady came with the Cobras and I understand that I've lost a little HP due to the back pressure.  How do the Jardine's effect preformance when compared to the Cobras?  Stock exhaust?

I have run the Cobras with and without baffles.  I currently have them baffled and they will probably stay that way.  On longer trips the rumble of the pipes gets to be a bit much for me.   The Jardines have a fixed baffled.  How do they compare to the sound of the Cobras?

Thanks,

Sambeaux

Cobras sound about the best. IMHO
If they are too loud for your taste, remove the baffles, wrap them with fiberglass packing, then reinsert.

After cutting open a set of OEM pipes, I'm convinced almost any exhaust system would net you more torque. (Torque is what is measurable,...HP is a calculation based on Tq/RPM)

ALWAYS QUESTION AUTHORITY!

Approx. i/2 as loud, nice rumble does not start to vibrate your head after a while!!!

You can tell just by looking at the guts of a muffler how well they will perform compared to others?  :cooldude:

A couple of more questions -

Does anyone know if these are single wall or doubled walled pipes?  I plan to ceramic coat the headers of my Cobras cause of blueing.

Are there alternatives to the original fixed baffles.  Can they be drilled out, removed and replaced with different types / lenght?

Thanks again,

Sam

Hi Sam, my Valk came with TwoBrothers 6 pack, loud as hell, but had that '54 Buick V8 rumble I love. After a year and a half, I decided I didn't want to go deaf and found a set of the Jardine's. Love them. NOT loud but you know when you're gettin on it, no blub-blub-blub rumble anymore, but your ears will thank you! They are not double wall at the header, mine are totally rust coated after 60,000.

Here's a simple question.

Of all muffler systems made for the Valkyrie, who among all the manufacturers spent the most time and money in development of their particular exhaust system?

You know what the answer is?

It's HONDA !!!!!

That is why, if installing an aftermarket exhaust system, you are having to go to greater lengths in modifying other systems just to recapture the lost performance of your Valkyrie by removing the stock exhaust system.

There will be a multitude of denials regarding the truth of what I say but all denials are based in ignorance or closed mindedness to the facts.

Installing aftermarket exhaust systems will result in a loss of performance.

The truth hurts!

Mr. Ricky-D.

I disagree a little bit with ya.    I've had several different after market systems on MGM.     I lost hp & torque, via a baseline Dyno run on all except Jardine's, Viking, and Super Trapps.

On these 3 systems, I put them on and made no further adjustments.   That is till when I did a bunch of head work with the Vikings, which by the way paid off on that mod.   Stock & Viking made no difference, same with Jardine's.   If memory serves me correctly, Super Trapps gave me about 3 more HP and 5 more Torque right out of the box.

Yes but you also have to consider Honda's design goal.  It was most likely to achieve the best compromise between power and fuel economy while still meeting government regulations on noise and emissions, all of which compete with each other.  In the aftermarket, or as a tinkerer, you're usually only concerned about optimizing for best power, so there is room for improvement.

Two Brothers were on the bike when I bought it used from the dealer, no stockers :( I had her dyno'd last summer with the Jardine's on and she turned 100hp and 98 ft/lb, no complaints from me! Top end speed went up some with the Jardine's, the 5 deg trigger wheel is at fault for that loss though. It' d be nice to dial that away when I wanted to :)

Even in the 90's - When Honda was developing the Valkyrie - they had to consider Big Brother's emission specifications.  Just like production motorcycles of today, Honda had to tune the engines to meet the pollution standards of the day, rather than to maximize  preformance.  I believe, based on the information found on this board, its been proven that with a few tuning adjustments or modifcations the F6 engine is capable of much more (desmog, trigger wheels, etc...).   I see aftermarket exhaust as just another possible option.

For me its not really a question of increased preformance - the Lady has more power than I'll ever use.  Its more about my pipes are too loud but I'm not wild about the look or sound of a stock exhaust.  No disrespect intented - just not my preference.   8)

I would love to mount up the SuperTrapp system, but the expense is astronomical for my budget! So I am sticking with the stock system.

I had a 1980 Yamaha SR500 that was hopped up with the White Brothers Performance mods. I think the new displacment was 536cc, 11:1 compression, WB-1 camshaft, titanium vlave retainers, 36mm Mikuni carb altered by White Brothers, and teh SuperTrapp exhaust. That baby had torque like nothing else. Canyon carver...
