US security contractors and private military units like (but not actually) Blackwater/Academi. How do I know? I installed passive/active missile defense systems in a bunch of Mi172 helicopters. For those who don't know the Mi172 is the "export" version of the Mi8 which is the Russian military's version of the UH60. Besides which, Russia has supplied Syria with military hardware for decades.

So how is this "news"?
